2017! the year every LMP1 died (except the one that had already died) - Earl Bamber, Brendon Hartley and Timo Bernhard's Porsche had to have a full engine replacement and was in the garage for literally hours overnight.
then around 2am every other LMP1 stopped working, all within the space of about 15 minutes. the stricken Porsche thus became the last one running (although it was up on the stands at this point) and when they got back out they ran at quali speeds for hours and hours, only taking the lead with less than two hours to go
a Toyota also managed to limp to the end in the end but nowhere near the podium. a teenager in an LMP2 outright led Le Mans for ages. Alex Brundle was on the overall podium. absolutely bonkers year tbh (but they often are)
