“YOU GUYS WANT ME TO WATCH THE NEW EPISODE OF (YOUR GROUP NAME)’S VARIETY SHOW?” Seonghyeon ended up reading aloud, his eyebrows slightly lifting at the comment during his solo Weverse live. A nervous chuckle slipped out, heat already starting to keep up at the back of his neck. “Like… right now?”
His eyes roamed across the flood of messages suddenly filling the chat more than before, trying to keep up with all of them. Even when he thought of attempting to stop it briefly to read a single comment, they all seemed to say the same thing anyway. Judging by the general agreement of all the ‘yes’ from almost everyone, it was clear it would be hard to ignore this one.
Of course, the thing was that he had already known the new episode was dropping today—he even had a reminder set to check your group’s channel to see if it was uploaded. What he didn’t know, though, was for fans to now demand a live reaction. So now his only thought was: should I really choose to watch this with all these people watching me?
"You guys are trying to get all the crumbs you can get, huh?" Seonghyeon could joke, glancing between his computer and his phone screen.
The relationship between you and Seonghyeon hasn’t been revealed too long ago, but it hasn’t been too recent either. The announcement was far from ideal; being exposed by paparazzi on a random Tuesday night wasn’t quite the reveal you’d once imagined. It felt weird to have something that personal taken out of your hands before you could share it on your own terms, but that was just how the industry is.
After months of spikes in headlines, sudden posts, and waves of online discourse, things finally began to settle. All the buzz turned into gentle support, and the idea Seonghyeon had once imagined for how it could’ve gone ended up turning into something better than expected.
You were both in a more comfortable stage now, though he always still carried deep worries about the hate comments resurfacing. He was definitely grateful—deeply grateful—for all the support, but there was always that lingering thought that something he might say or do might end up hurting the person he truly loves.
“You guys… seriously, I don’t know—” he stopped mid sentence, leaning closer to go back to see that one comment that caught his eye.
“Seonghyeon watched it already with Y/N, didn’t he?” he read, a sigh soon leaving his mouth with a half laugh following it right after. “No, no, I haven’t. I usually don’t because she would always find a way to make us stop watching it.”
He let out a small giggle, which he instinctively brought a slow hand up to cover his mouth—as if that would somehow keep from saying more. He lowered his hand subtly and quietly whispered, “You know… just waiting for the perfect time to watch it properly.”
Clearly—of course—the hand and attempt to end the conversation did nothing to help the chat move any slower.
But really, it’s simply just a video.
So, why should he hold the need to hold himself back? What harm could there be in watching a thirty to forty minute video mid livestream—especially when it meant supporting his girlfriend?
“Alright then,” Seonghyeon murmured as he faced the computer to pull up Youtube in the search bar. He clacks of the keyboard keys blended with his soft hum, the sounds easily filling in the quiet of the room. When the cursor of the mouse hovered over the thumbnail, he looked back at the camera, giving a shy, tight lipped smile. “Let’s watch it together.”
As he clicked on the video, the familiar intro of your group’s song instantly played. As he adjusted the audio, Seonghyeon leaned back slightly, his hands falling away from the keyboard as his head was already bobbing to the music without him realizing it.
Not even a full minute in, he stopped the video, turning to speak to the camera.
“I really like the scrapbook concept introduction for this era,” he said, feeling the need to clarify it more as if he was explaining something niche. “It suits the song well—like, it’s kind of a more nostalgic vibe, you know?”
He reached over for his phone that was propped up on a phone stand, carefully lifting it as he adjusted the angle until the video filled the frame. “The polaroids and the pop up text of their names are cute too,” he added, pointing at the screen with his index finger—right on where your photo happened to be.
Realizing what it would look like to others, Seonghyeon froze for a split second before quickly setting his phone back down, clearing his throat softly. “But, uh, enough of that, right?”
“It seems like a field day concept,” he still continued, this time speaking more to himself instead of the viewers.
And soon enough, all his earlier and major hesitation faded away. He stopped worrying about how people expected him to react or what they might read into every glance and word he decides to share. Instead, he was rather engrossed in what was happening in the video, the corners of his mouth lifting unconsciously every time the camera panned to you.
He listened carefully as the usual beginning chatter took place, where he quietly chuckled at your jokes. He listened when the PD explained the first game, nodding along as if he was present in that filming. And then he definitely listened when the staff mentioned you’d be taking place at the final state… driving a—
“Princess car?” he suddenly blurted out, wearing a look of confusion that also mirrored your own on the screen. The camera had panned suddenly to reveal a large, bright pink toy vehicle with two tiny white seats—although it was obvious it could only fit one person.
The game was simple. It consisted of a series of relay rounds where each member had to complete their part before they could move onto the next one to begin. It was a typical variety segment that always made the stakes feel higher when there was something on the line.
Fans would later joke that this was the most “boyfriend-coded” moment in the live, because Seonghyeon just couldn’t stop talking about your part of the challenge.
“So Y/N needs to drive this… princess car around obstacles without crashing into anything,” he narrated, turning the camera toward himself like a YouTuber reviewing a video game. “She’s practicing it right now, but I have a feeling she’s going to crash.”
Seonghyeon laughed, eyes crinkling as he glanced occasionally back between the video and his livestream. He quickly paused by pressing the space bar before he squinted back to read another comment.
"Why won't you have faith in Y/N?" he read aloud, a small smirk tugging at his lips. "Hey, hey—don't paint me out as the bad guy. I am speaking from pure experience, okay?”
His eyes flicked back to the comments, catching a flood of question marks and curious replies asking what he meant by that. And, well, if people were asking, who was he to deny them a story about his own girlfriend?
By now, whatever worries he’d had about oversharing had melted away. After all, this one was harmless. And honestly, this story seemed relevant and fit the situation a little too well.
“So, me and Y/N went on a date to an amusement park once,” Seonghyeon began, already smiling at the memory. “We wanted to go on the bumper cars, right? And she insisted she wanted to drive one on her own—because, y’know, there are two kinds of carts. Bummer, I know. But, we went for the solo ones.”
Seonghyeon fixed his posture, lifting both of his hands to demonstrate. His palms faced down, one hand slightly more in front and tilted of the other to mimic the movement of a cart. “And every single time—without fail—whenever she tried to swerve away from me, she would just—” he moved his left hand into the motion of a sharp side turn, slowly but surely hitting it into his right hand, “—Boom! End up colliding with the wall!”
After he was done, he dropped his hands back onto his lap, his giggling intensifying as it also seemed like other people were laughing at it too.
"Yeah, she's definitely not the pro driver," Seonghyeon said, shaking his head to gain composure after his shoulders shook slightly from his laughter. "But, let me stop before I get myself in trouble with Y/N."
With that, he brought his hands back to the keyboard and hit play again.
On screen, the camera had switched to show everyone practicing before the game would proceed officially.
“How does this even work?” you huffed, pressing down on the plastic gas pedal, your frustration was already clear in your tone. Considering how it had taken you long enough just to climb into this tiny vehicle for little kids—there was no way you were about to waste another few minutes trying to get this thing to move.
You repositioned your foot again, pressing harder this time, causing the car to lurch forward at a speed faster than you had expected. You yelped, immediately taking your foot off the pedal as a terrible survival instinct, covering your mouth with your eyes wide open.
“Well, now I know,” you muttered, looking over your shoulder to see how far you’d gone from the original parking point. Glancing back at the personal camera in front of you, you pressed your lips in a thin line before sighing, “Should I just get up and drag it back myself?”
Seonghyeon could only shake his head from behind his screen, half in disbelief and half in affection. Although instant chaos within his own group wasn’t rare, even with you already managing to do the same thing within a span of three minutes was mindblowing to him—and he couldn’t stop smiling about it.
“And how much do you want to bet that she actually does drag it back herself?” he asks, eyes still glued on the screen but his words clearly directed to whoever was watching his live.
The moment you climbed out of the pink toy car and started tugging it back to its spot from the start, Seonghyeon snapped his fingers and pointed triumphantly toward the screen. “Told you. I just know her too well.” A smug grin spread across his face as he leaned back in his chair, clearly proud of his prediction.
“Alright, let’s actually try this time,” you huffed, cramming your legs back into the tight plastic space left in the vehicle.
With much more ease, this time, the car seemed to move smoothly. Excitement instantly spread across your face, causing you to gasp at every smooth turn. With the wheels moving just as they should, your eyes sparkled with every small success, leaving you content as your comfortability was now on a rise.
Everything was easy up until you reached a certain part of the obstacle course.
“How can I maneuver through all of these without hitting anything?” you quietly exclaimed, staring at the new setup—the once tall orange cones now replaced with random, much larger objects.
“Now, she’s worrying me,” Seonghyeon had to comment, his voice low but fond. Despite his words, his own facial expression was betraying him—he seemed to grin a little too hard to even try to hide it. With the way the corners of his mouth were twitching and turning more upward by the second, it seemed like there was something about watching you like this—so focused—that he couldn’t easily pry his eyes off of you.
“Here goes nothing!” you declared, pressing down on the gas pedal once more. Your brows furrowed, lips pursed in concentration as you steered carefully through the first few obstacles.
To everyone’s surprise—including Seonghyeon’s—you were doing great.
You zipped past the smaller cones with ease, clearly more confident now.
And then, just as quickly, it all went wrong.
All that confidence quickly diminished once you failed to turn the steering wheel on time, bumping straight into the blockade set in the center of the track. The light collision still had you jolting more than the toy car did, your startled gasp filling the area, even catching another member of your group’s attention.
“What. the. hell.”
Those words just had to be the cherry on top. Seonghyeon burst into laughter, slamming his hands against the keyboard as he paused the video right on the still frame of your shocked face. The screen froze on you with your mouth dropped open and your hands still gripping the steering wheel, which only made him laugh harder.
Tears were beginning to prick the corners of his eyes, his face turning slightly red as he tried to compose himself. He couldn’t even bring himself to read the comments as he was too busy wiping his own eyes, trying to get rid of the sudden blurred vision.
With how helpless and wide his grin was, everyone expected him to explain why he found it so funny when he didn’t have to.
The look on his face said it all.
As Seonghyeon tried to catch his breath, one hand hovered over his stomach while the other wiped at the corner of his eye. Between quiet bursts of leftover laughter, he finally managed to mumble, almost to himself, “Why is she so cute?”
The words slipped out before he could even process them. It wasn’t until he started to calm down that he caught sight of the sudden flood of comments racing up the side of his screen.
Wait.
Did he really just admit that to everyone?
“Ah,” was all Seonghyeon could manage to let out, his smile frozen in place. It was the awkward kind of smile that only deepened by the passing seconds because he didn’t know what else to do. If it wasn’t obvious from the beginning, the heat was really starting to creep up more instantly, turning the tips of his ear red this time.
He waved at the camera like it could somehow erase the words he’d just spoken. “Alright, okay—let’s… uh,” he stammered, his voice continuously cracking when he tried regaining his composure back. “Move on, yes! Let’s…. move on. Yeah.”
Seonghyeon couldn’t focus back on the video like he did earlier. In his peripheral vision, it’s so easy for him to assume that every new comment popping up would be about what happened seconds ago.
His stomach twisted with nervous energy, fingers fidgeting together under the desk.
“You guys…” he started, letting out a half-laugh, half-sigh. “Okay, that’s enough!”
That only seemed to fuel the teasing, which he swore he could have seen comments that said, ‘caught you lacking!’ or ‘someone’s in loveee’ repeatedly.
“You don’t have to tell me that again,” he said as his curiosity took over while reading the other ones, voice softer now, the corners of his mouth twitching upward despite himself. “I know she’s cute.”
The confidence in his tone cracked just slightly at the end, as if he was only realizing what he’d admitted again. His gaze flickered to the camera, then away. “So you can’t blame me for saying that, okay?”
He tried to sound casual, but the small, shy smile tugging at his lips made it impossible to believe. Letting out one last sigh that melted into a chuckle, he reached for the mouse. “Alright, that’s enough for today—this video and this livestream. I’ll finish watching the rest later before I say something even more embarrassing.”
“Go ahead and watch the video on your own time, okay?” he said while closing out of the tab. He picked up his phone afterward, bringing it a little closer to his face. With his other hand, he gave a small wave. “Bye—”
But before he could finish, his hand froze midair. His eyes darted to the top of the screen, lips silently forming the words of the new notification that appeared.
You texted him.
His expression shifted instantly—a mix of panic and disbelief flashing across his face. “Alright now,” he leaned closer to the camera, squinting. “Who snitched?!”
As he glanced one last time at the comments—some proudly claiming they were “just helping Y/N out”—Seonghyeon let out a dramatic groan.
“Yeah… so helpful, aren’t you,” he whispered, the faint flush spreading across his cheeks only making everything worse for him.
In his haste to end the live—with fans already teasing him about how eager he was to respond back to you—he waved one final time toward the camera before the screen turned black.
“I am so dead.”
‘💬’ ─ he’s been REALLY bias wrecking me lately it’s crazy.
