My knitting speed has sure grown over the past year. Was done the body of a mitten in less than two days! #strandedmittens #strandedkal2018 #yearlongmittalong #evjamittens #knitting #strandedknitting #selbumittens #knittersofinstagram (at Burnaby, British Columbia) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bnbg-PHnNsv/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1lrwih4m8zm2y
Via Instagram @benedicteesk #selbuvotter #selbumittens for #hanson! @zachanson and @isaachanson got theirs in Ålesund. @taylorhanson will get his in #bergen 😉
There's still two whole months of mitten wearing weather left. Plenty of time to knit yourself a pair of traditional #selbumittens with a modern (and more comfortable) thumb. . . . . . #knittersofinstagram #selbustrikk #strandedknitting #knittingpattern #fiberbitch #knitstagram #kniteveryday http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/sn-day-mittens
I made some modifications to a nice free mitten pattern on Ravelry to add a cuff and make it a little shorter, and I wanted to have it documented somewhere! Original pattern: Nagu Selbu
Pattern:
CO 54 sts in CC. Knit around for ~17 rows in CC (cuff lining). Purl one row if fold desired.
Latvian braid in CC and MC.
Knit cuff chart (3x around per row). Latvian braid again.
Knit around once in MC, increasing 4 sts (58 sts)
Follow mitten and thumb charts. At beginning of thumb in round 17, move thumb gusset sts to waste yarn and CO 10 sts in MC.
Continue working from chart until all rows complete. Then K2tog around, break yarn & weave in. Repeat in mirror image for left mitten. Fold in cuff lining if desired & sew in place.
Edit 2/24/20: I’ve just noticed the thumb in the chart is the same as the original, in fact I changed it to stop about 2 rows shorter!

All done! Now to just deal with the ends, sew in the lining, and block...something I have not attempted before 😬 Something about washing objects I spent hours making gives me the heebies.
Finished my first pair of #skeindeerknitsselbumittens! Excited to do the rest of the ones in her club!! #selbumittens #knitting #knittersofinstagram
Made these mittens while in Mexico!! They’re the lovely Effie mittens by Skeindeer, the fourth and final mitten club pattern in her Selbu Mitten Club II. Aren’t they lovely?? Effie is an alternate spelling of Evja, but part of me thinks that Effie Trinket would really love to wear these as well. :) #selbuvotter #selbumittens #skeindeerknits #knitting #knittingaddict #knittedmittens (at Burnaby, British Columbia) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bq2xkh3FgWC/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1c6wyr3q18a8t
