A lot of the fandom being obsessed with theories on who he is and piecing together his lore, sinking their teeth into everything about him as breadcrumbs are set out for us to follow.

Years later(?) Gaster becomes obsessed in his experiments of being able to contact us and creating an entire story just to have the equivalent of an eldritch multidimensional being be put in a rat maze.

can you imagine being stuck in-between worlds forever with one person?

maybe you don't remember how you got there, or who you were before, but you have a feeling. just the smallest inkling of an idea about what your past could have been, but it's a slurry of who you were and could have been. the world between worlds might have grabbed all of you at once, unceremoniously shoving every ounce that was once spread across time and space into one vessel. it's cramped, overwhelming at first as you get used to this brand new sensation. of course this is all just happening in your head.

outside, you're so still. your eyes are glazed over and vacant, overwhelm physically manifested in your frown and the way you can help but furrow your brows slightly. you're a fraction of the person you once were, and all of your potential at once. emotionally it's like if a full laundry basket could be a person.

to your left stands another figure, shoulder to shoulder. he was there when you arrived, and you didn't feel like asking questions. with time, be it a minute or a century, you got used to him. there wasn't a lot to be said between you, but you both knew your situation was bleak in retrospect. there was an impression of a melancholy feeling brewing in your gut that felt louder than the overwhelming "everything else" you felt.

cold fingers graze yours, you don't immediately react. turning your head ever so slightly, you look down to see the stranger's knuckle just a hairsbreadth away from yours. he was trying to hold your hand. usually you'd probably swat his hand away, but nothing about this was usual and in the back of your mind you knew that. after giving a moment of hesitation, your fingers slide between his. it was a rather loose hold, showing your uncertainty of the situation. the stranger decides to bridge the gap, actually taking your hand and holding it reassuringly firm.

He talks very slowly to you on purpose, slow and unskippable dialog to keep you locked in and with him for as long as he can

The story he weaves for you isn't all that vast, but he fills it with secrets, difficult things to find and rare dialog to hunt for. Things that will keep you coming back, trying again, up for hours searching

He chose the Shadow Bosses for this same reason. They're hard to find, harder to beat, frustrating but not impossible. A challenge worth conquering. Time worth spending.

When you do finally close out if feels as though all the air as left his body. He's drowning without your gaze, your smile and laugh and voice over of the characters

And when you come back its like he's been reborn. Suddenly he can breath and see and think. The world isn't so dark anymore, with you there behind the screen, talking to who you think is yourself

He hangs on your every word, your every laugh, your every crinkle of a smile, like a drug it all makes him feel on top of the world

Don't turn the game off just yet. There's still more to see. More people to talk to. More secrets to uncover. Just a few more battles. Another attempt at that boss. Just another hour. Just a little bit longer
