I won't lie, he's sort of in disbelief

in a good way tho

his heart legit skipped a beat

he's shaking with excitement and trying and failing to fight back a smile

trying to play it cool but he's legit never been so happy and giddy in his life

usually people just like him for his brooding good looks and that's it

and tbh it's actually rare he hears a compliment on any of his other qualities ('I know I don't have many other good ones, okay...')

so when you not only notice them-- not only like them--- but you in fact love them???

and love him???

excuse him while he howls at the moon as he jumps over it

I think he legit had to go on a sprint through the forest afterwards to get out all his excited energy, he was so damn happy

doesn't say anything about it to you at all later

but you can't help but notice he's smiling a bit more warmly at you

and when you tell him you like his smile?

he can't help how red his face gets

good thing he doesn't have a tail anymore, it would make it too obvious with how much it'd be wagging

he has never had his ear perked up so much in his life

he is engraving each word into his brain

and he's got the dopiest love sick smile

later he's very dreamy

thinking about you more and more with everything you said echoing in his mind

but he only does so to tell you that he feels the same

and he's so lucky to have you

I think he has an extra spring in his back flips for like a month after this

his mind his racing, his palms are sweating, he can't stop smiling

he's holding himself, biting back laughter

he doesn't know how to process this level of ecstasy

and I think on some level he didn't even see this coming or even know what's going on

but anytime he thinks about what you said to try and analyze what's affecting him so much, he's in a state all over again

he definitely tells you, though it's a mix of an accident and also him not caring enough to hide it

you meet up with him and he's trying to keep his cool

but he can't help the little smile that betrays him

can already feel the wave of it all washing back over him

he's chuckling a bit

he's holding himself again

you ask him what's wrong and he just looks at you

hands gripping his shoulders, biting his lip as he tries not to laugh, eyes wide, grin creeping on his face, shaking

"I heard what you said earlier" he steps closer

"About how much you Love me," and closer

"All the little things you love about me," he grabs yous a little too tight, looking you deep in your eyes

Cole:

Honestly probably the most protective of the boys

Not that he'd let you know that

Gets crazy jealous and crazy protective

If anyone says anything rude to you, you bet he's either standing behind you or just around a corner glaring them down

While you're around he's fine to just use his natural creepiness to intimidate people into backing down

But rest assured, he is adding them to his list...

And depending how egregious their transgression was, they might be moved straight to the top of said list

But that's just him being protective of you towards other people

But there are many dangers in this world a marshmallow could face that aren't people

Like I stated before he acts very calm and cool the majority of the time-- brushing off any body guard accusations and denying he did anything

But all that cool goes completely out the window if you are ever in mortal danger in front of him

He is loud, he is aggressive, he's a little bit violent

He also can't help but freak out

You getting hurt or worse is his literally his nightmare and losing you in an capacity is his only real free

Get ready to be held a little too tight as he mumbles away, completely lost in panicked thought

Once he's composed again he will very shyly deny that he ever lost his cool that much in the first place

But he will also hold you close again at random later and tell you that you're not allowed to get hurt, got it?

Scale:

Don't ever tell Cole you said or thought this, but him and Scale are a lot alike lmao

Scale is probably the second most protective boy in the cast

But he's definitely not as possessive or unhinged lmao

He's more nervously concerned

He sees you trip and catches you and is all "dorky and worried"

Yes. He considers concern dorky. He is an assassin. They don't DO concern...

At least he usually doesn't

But with you he turns into a fretting mother hen at a pin drop

And then gets really embarrassed that he did

He has been training specifically to keep you safe

Reflexes to catch you when you fall

Awareness of your surroundings to notice any danger before it has a chance to come near you

First aid and CPR, just in case

He is also a stand behind you menacingly type

But unlike Cole, he is not as quiet about it

Not that he's screaming or anything, but he will tell someone to piss off

He also will pull out one of his blades to really send the message home

Def one of the types to bridal carry you if you hurt yourself or are feeling weak

He also always makes sure you're wearing a seat belt (which half the time he doesn't even do himself)

I think it depends on how close the reader is to them.

if it's at the start they'll brush it off like 'pff whatever'

BUT if it's later on when they've accepted their crushes and start to give into the dokis they're gonna start getting FLUSTERED

Both are bad at hiding it but in different ways

Scale proclaims that he sees your flirt challenge and he accepts (like a DORK just flirt back nerd)

while Volks tries really hard to pretend it's not happening and it's awkward and he's super bad at hiding it but then he finally just caves and tells you you're making him flustered

much much later into things however, both will just see it as an opening to be flirty right back

which is what they'll do

when he sees you paying special attention to anyone he can't help but feel a little twinge of jealousy

he also starts on a small internal downward spiral

"what do they got that I don't have???? ...other than a lot... actually..."

"I bet they'd be happier with them too... I bet they're better at making them smile..."

"UGH! this is so dumb! relationships are dumb! feelings are dumb! I should just live alone in the woods, this is so hard, why is it so hard, is it supposed to be this hard ARRRGH"

will never tell you to stop talking to other people but will tell you to pay attention to him

will be a little bit needy after a fit of jealousy

he's trying to hide it but he's actually really bad at it

also please give him some validation, he really needs it lol

Seth:

Doesn't usually get jealous actually

at least that's what he thinks

and honestly he really doesn't

but every now and then he sees you paying more attention to someone else rather than him and it's not usually how he feels, but he suddenly wants all your attention on him

will try to regain your attention via distraction or flirtation

and if someone tries to interrupt they are going to have a very cold yet burning glare shooting back at them silently signalling to back off

Scale:

takes a lot for him to be jealous

like he doesn't notice he should be jealous right away

but when he does OH MAN is this boy pouty

he's very needy and bratty and a little bit demanding

but mostly cause he's flipping back and forth between thinking that he's totally better than whomever is his rival atm and also worrying that maybe you don't think that too

speaking of rivals, he now has a new rival

they better watch their back, cause he's got his eye on them

Volks

okay so legit I think Volks either doesn't noticed or will not admit to himself that he has a crush

for like

somewhere in his dumb little head he's like 'wow, I can't stop thinking about them.... that must mean they're my mortal enemy and my brain is still stuck on how to defeat them'

I legit think he's probably not had too too many good exchanges with people in the past (see my Volks headcanons but short version everyone always wants something from him)

so he legit doesn't understand what he's feeling

I think the realization hits him when it's beyond clear to everyone else that he's completely in love

and it kinda comes out of nowhere from him

like you're talking about something and you just laugh and he realizes, 'oh.'

I think he stops listening at that point cause he's surprised how he never noticed before

and he realizes it isn't out of nowhere, it's been there for a long time

you'd think he'd be upset about it or something but I actually think he's pretty warm and soft about it

at least to himself

when you ask him what's up he gets embarrassed and dodges an accusations that he's acting funny

He's actually pretty nervous and flustered about the whole thing

I actually think he confesses at the end of that day

He's walking you home and just outside your door he kind of just stops and stares

it's a mix of anxious and excited on his face, and he clearly has something he wants to say but he's trying to figure out how to say it

you ask him what's up and he just looks you straight in the eye and says 'I love you.' with no holding back. no restraint. he's the surest he's ever been about anything.

I think the thing that surprises him the most over all is how much he likes being in love

He's not sure if that's normal or if it's cause it's you

won't lie he's a little 'oh shit.' when he realizes

I think it takes him about a month

maybe just short of that

once he realizes he accepts it pretty quickly and starts making a plan of attack

he can't afford to screw this up, so he needs to play it out perfectly

More so than what he was already doing unconsciously (looking back, he's kind of mad at himself for not realizing he was going all doki eye'd sooner)

until after a while he notices how well you are surviving just being his friend so he figures, what the hell, let the seduction begin!

(not to mention he was doing a shitty job at keeping away from you anyways and the thought of having to watch from the shadows as you have a passionate romance with someone else kind of pushed his hand more than he will ever admit)

as for how he'd confess--

I think he tries some very cool and daring things that ultimately end up failing

each time he is SURE he's go the perfect act of assassin radness that will practically have YOU confessing to HIM

but every time he gets too nervous and fucks it all up in the end

he is REALLY not used to being this flustered or nervous

after one too many failed attempts he starts getting really pouty

you ask him what's up and he flat out says 'I've been trying to confess my crush to you in a really cool way, but I keep messing everything up!' without realizing that that was basically a confession right there

it actually takes him a beat to realize what he's said

and then he goes into panic mode

'FORGET WHAT I SAID YOU HEARD NOTHING OKAY BYE!' smoke bomb, gone

he attempts to avoid you but is actually finding it really difficult since you always seem to be able to find him

he'd be more upset about it if this wasn't the exact kind of thing that made him fall for you in the first place

he gets a little swoony at the idea that he can never really hide from you is cause you know him so well

when you eventually do catch up with him you tell him that you like him too

which he gets SUUUUUPER flustered at cause 'Hey! I WANTED TO CONFESS FIRST!'

you laugh, calm him down, take back your confession and then let him confess (first)
