I have a Super Dollfie now
I recently decided to finally take the plunge and get myself a Super Dollfie. Since I don't live anywhere with a Volks store, she's one of their standard models (specifically Maki) as I prefer this design to the currently available limited models and can't get a custom doll.
Meet Molly.
She's very interesting to pose compared to my other dolls. Due to her nature as a ball-joint doll, I have to slightly pull on her joints to move them rather than just gripping firmly like I would with Maria, though there are rubber pieces (Volks call it the KIPS or Keep It Posed System) in the joints in her arms which help to hold them in place. With her legs, the angle of the elastic cord inside the doll means that she will very easily slam her knees together if in a sitting position and there are some movements she can't really do, though double jointed knees mean she can sit in a kneeling pose. She also has only one part making up her torso, so she can't turn at the waist like most of my other dolls can.
Molly is also somewhat heavier than Maria, since the Dollfie Dream is based around an internal frame with thin vinyl parts around them whereas the Super Dollfie is a lot more solid. This contributes to her being harder to pose in a standing position, even though the knee joints are designed to lock in place when straightened, so I will probably get a display stand at some point.
I also decided when I got her that I would sort the mold lines (the extra bits left along the sides of the parts where the two halves of a mold join together) myself rather than paying the extra fee for having this done for me. Only do this if you are confident and familiar with removing mold lines. It took about two hours of work with a knife and sanding sponge and was definitely trickier than doing the same with model kits. If doing this yourself, I also recommend wearing a facemask and cleaning the doll regularly with a damp cloth as the resulting resin dust is not pleasant at all.
The detail on the face is phenomenal, with eyelashes much more subtle than I did for Maria and a more realistic design (as is generally the case for Super Dollfies). I'm not sure it shows that well in the photos, but the glass eyes have a very realistic appearance and her lips are pretty and glossy.
When it comes to dressing her, the range of clothes which will fit is a bit different to those which fit Maria. The proportions are a bit different, since Maria (being a Dollfie Dream) has a narrower waist with more stylised proportions, compared to Molly having fairly realistic proportions. The two have similar hip sizes, but alas the trousers I got for Maria won't also fit Molly. Dresses and skirts for her only.
Naturally, Molly and Maria are clear friends. They've been sitting together since I got them.
Molly also came with a certificate of authenticity (which I won't share since it has my given name on!) and her box had soft pillows to keep her safe in transit, which was nice. I think I will keep them to hand in case I ever want to take her somewhere.
