i’ve been reading @the-darklings Better Bobby series on my alt fanfic account for the longest time so i decided to make some fanart of BB based off the artwork under the cut. can’t get enough of him😭😭😭

good question! BB can force passages between levels. that's canon, but can doesn't mean easily or without cost, and by part 6 he's running on fumes for three reasons stacking on top of each other at once.

first, the Entity X fight. that wasn't a clean win. that was two massive forces tearing through Level 0 (his home turf, the only level he has full control over) and even though he came out on top, the fight was brutally demanding. it cost him enormously.

second, the damage. parts of Level 0 got wiped out entirely during that clash, which means his strongest territory, the place where his power is absolute, is compromised. the usual routes are gone.

third, the Bobby-suit. maintaining a permanent human form is not passive. it's a constant active drain, every second of every day, and he's been running it nonstop while also fighting and navigating and protecting three humans.

so by part 6 you've got an entity who's exhausted from a catastrophic fight, operating on a damaged home level, and splitting his energy between forced passage and keeping a human face on. that's why during the earlier parts when you were exploring together he used natural exits and entries between levels rather than tearing through. he can force it, but only alone, and it requires power he can't spare when he's also keeping the suit together and keeping you safe.

so if he dropped the suit (if he let the Bobby-face dissolve and went full, true, unobservable form) he could tear through every level between here and the exit without breaking stride. he has that in him. he's always had that in him. but that would mean you'd see what's underneath, and he would rather run on empty in a borrowed body than let that happen. the suit stays on. no matter the cost. because the suit is yours and losing it means losing the version of himself you fell in love with, and that terrifies him more than any fight ever could.

it's the way his shirt rides up just enough when he stretches or reaches for something on a high shelf and there it is. that trail of fine, dark hair disappearing below the waistband and your brain just.... evacuates. no thoughts. just static and the overwhelming urge to put your mouth on the strip of skin between his navel and the belt buckle.

and he doesn't know. that's what kills you. he has no idea what that glimpse does. he built the Bobby-suit down to the pore and included every detail, every freckle, every strand of body hair because accuracy. because the illusion had to be complete. he didn't put the happy trail there to torment you on purpose.

he put it there because bobby has one and bb is through, if nothing else.

but you stare. and he catches you staring, and his head does the confused tilt because you're burning holes into his stomach with an expression he usually only sees when he's three fingers deep and he doesn't understand why a strip of hair below his navel is causing you to short circuit like this.

"what."

"nothing."

"you're looking at— "

"I said nothing."

and later when you're pulling his shirt off you press your mouth to that trail, just below his belly button, and drag your lips down, slow, following the path of it, tongue going flat, and the sound bb makes is so wrecked and confused because it's just his stomach, why does that feel like—
