Thanks for the ask!

I had to really think about this one because, for all that Toph was my favorite member of the Gaang when I watched ATLA, I've actually never written a Toph ship. In fact, Toph only appears in a single fic of mine, the unfinished Girls Night, which has no ships at all. In general I'd say I'm pretty lazy and apathetic about most Gaang ships and tend to default to either canon or what my friends like when I write them in the background. Except, oddly enough, for a single Toph ship that I've adopted as a pretty entrenched background headcanon: the brief, passionate affair between Toph and Satoru.

Now, this ship goes against everything I believe in in several ways. First, there are no comics, and nothing in the comics is canon, so this adorkable nerd shouldn't even exist in my brain. Second, I strongly dislike almost all theories about characters in LOK being secretly related to Gaang members - nothing wrong with these ideas, it's just a fantasy trope I broadly don't like (Rey should not have been a Palpatine, okay?). Yet here I am, convinced that Toph was absolutely handling Satoru's machinery and that the result of this summer of love was none other than Hiroshi Sato. I'll finish that fic eventually so y'all can see my full unhinged and utterly unsupported theory here.

Soooooo that's a really long-winded way of saying I like Satoph.

Toph: Today, 40 years ago, I lost my dear husband Satoru.

Satoru: I'm literally standing next to you.

Toph: Sometimes I can still hear his voice.

Tokka is my otp, nothing’s going to change that, but Kantoph has a special place in my heart and it almost ties with Tokka, man. Like, if Tokka wasn’t a thing, Kantoph would take the cake. It’s just—I love them. And then, Satoph, I never really paid much attention to, but always found cute. All that matters is that Toph’s happy, tbh <3

And I know that you’re not asking this because of To Be So Fond as you’ve made so totally clear, but I wanted to say that, unfortunately, Kanto does not make an appearance in this fic. I’d considered him to be the character Satoru’s playing, but it didn’t feel right.
