What sort of jobs do you see The Gaang/Dangerous Ladies doing in a modern au?
Excellent question, lemme think on this—
It low key depends on the AU, because I feel like the gals could hold various jobs, so I wouldn't say these are my "set in stone" headcanons, but my instinctual guess as to their professions.
Katara - I honestly see her as a doctor or a nurse all the time idk—
She just has this intelligence about her that screams the medical field and I also think she naturally wants to help people, so that's why she goes into medicine. I think I lean toward doctor over nurse, and I think I've HC'd her as a physical therapist or PA before.
Toph - She's either a pro athlete (swimming) or works in the engineering field, some subset of civil engineering I think. I've also had her as an architect in a fic or two, I think?
Toph's profession is pretty flexible for me, imo. If she's in a college AU, she's usually there for some sort of STEM field, I think. And then if she doesn't go to college... Her as a pro swimmer is my fav job HC idk. She's an Olympian and all <3
I also have seen her running martial arts dojos and as an artist or musician, and again, think it just depends on the AU for me!
Suki - I think if she went to school for something specific, perhaps athletic training? Otherwise running a martial arts class is another common HC for me! I feel like she enjoys a lot of different sports and so she's there to help prevent injuries and boss all these jocks around on how to keep them out of her office lol.
Azula - Azula feels like an investment broker at a major investment firm. She commands any room she's in and particularly loves a challenge, like being one of the only women in a meeting room lmao. She's the type to work 90 hour weeks, partly for the money and partly for the love of the game. Perhaps when she gets burnt out, she goes into an entrepreneurial route, but at least for the first few years out of school, she's making a name for herself on the trading floor (metaphorically speaking lmao).
Mai - She seems like the type to love culinary school and being a chef. has a whole collection of knives that she cherishes, and loves the cutthroat environment she's in.
Ty Lee - Ty Lee seems like a personal trainer to me. Mayhaps a retired gymnast LOL.
I think she's one of those gals that loves to talk fitness and spends as much of her time in the gym as possible, which leads her to finding a passion for helping others, teaching them workout routines, maybe even creating diets for her clients.
