They have moments here and there over the years. Sokka is still with Suki so they deal with massive guilt over it because Suki is the best and they dkn't want to hurt her but they just have this feeling around eachother but there is NO CHEATING

In one of the moments, Sokka is trying to surprise Toph and blindfolds her (lol) After a pause Sokka realises his mistake and he then picks her up bridal style to "blindfold" her. Toph has a Crisis about it

Suki dies young in a battle of some sort. I'm sorry queen its for the Plot

Sokka backs off of Toph bigtime after that because of guilt but eventually he decides he needs her and they get close again.

They sleep together and Sokka gets weird and distant again because holy fuck he feels like toph is his soulmate but that means that Suki wasnt.

He talks to Katara about it and she tells him she thinks that people can have more than one soulmate, people can have zero soulmates, there are no rules! Aang says he has infinite soulmates because he's the Avatar and is spiritually connected to every person in the world.

The first time they sleep together Toph gets preganté with Su and Sokka doesn't know for sure and is okay to keep it that way for a while. Eventually though they fall out over parenting styles

"You can't be so distant with them, they need you!"

"Back off, Meathead, you're not their dad!"

"Aren't I, Toph?"

"No." Toph hardened, "You're not."

Sokka storms out and that's the last thing they say to each other.

A week later Toph finds out he'd died.

It felt like the earth had been ripped out from under her. All of a sudden, all strength bled from her muscles, her bones were weak and weary, and her legs gave way. Her body crumpled onto the ground at the foot of her bed. She thought she should be crying or shouting or screaming; she wanted to do something to expel the acid that had filled her chest. But when she opened her mouth, nothing came but the sound of a choked breath.

She couldn't move, she couldn't speak, she couldn't breathe. There was just no will in her body. No drive to do anything but lay there in an uncomfortable pile and rot.

That was where Lin found her -- beelining to her mother's house as soon as she'd heard, no doubt. Toph knew that Lin noticed more than she let on, she had no doubt that Lin knew the depth of her connection to Sokka.

Everything felt empty. Untethered.

If not for Lin's strong, reassuring grip on her forearms, Toph was sure she'd float away into the abyss.

This was wrong. This shouldn't be happening. It wasn't supposed to be this way around. Toph should be comforting Lin. Even if it was never official, Sokka was her girls' dad. They all knew it.

She couldn't let her grief swallow her whole and drag her daughters down with her. Sokka would never forgive her.

All at once, overcome with wave of clarity, Toph took a deep breath, gasping like she'd been starved of air for days.

She does her best but Toph doesnt know how to parent without sokka and thats when she decides to piss off to swamptown.
