Yes, there is real fetishization that occurs, and that shouldn't be ignored. But also, it's frankly offensive that people will accuse conformants of being fetishists when they enjoy a genuinely well written story. Do you think our stories are so unenjoyable and unrelatable to general audiences that only "one of us" can understand?

some lesbians like yuri. some conservative dudes like yuri. some rfems like yuri. some extreme leftists probably like yuri. what does liking yuri have to do with anything? it's not even necessarily indicative of your attraction! you could be reading the yuri for the story, for the women, or because it has great writing!

I saw this post before that was basically like “‘Omg, sapphic!’ Look who can’t say lesbian😂” Basically making fun of people for using the term sapphic.

I am sapphic. I am not lesbian. I think I’m just tired of people saying that they’re one and the same, invalidating any sapphics that aren’t lesbians. I’m sick of people acting like sapphic is some bad term used to not talk about lesbians, when it’s just an umbrella term used to include many, many people. This also plays into a lot of bi and pan-erasure, but the hate for the term sapphic (at least, that I’ve seen bc I’m on one of the hell-sides of the internet) is so genuinely baffling.

This is sapphicphobia.

Like everything from "one of the good ones" (which i have had applied to me to my face in both racial and gendered contexts, and it feels like just as much a betrayal regardless of which) to the justifications for why every man is suspect including citing crime statistics (alongside a mealy mouthed implication that this is due to a stain on men's souls rather than learned behavior that is changeable if we change the environment), and don't get me started on that racist ass poison skittle analogy.

It's just a pathway to essentialism. It's a smokescreen for not only anti masculinity but also unvarnished transphobia that gets a free pass because it relies on denying that trans men are men. It's conservatism wearing a progressive skin suit.

Yeah, everything about the way people speak about the crime rate of men, especially black men (who are statistically arrested more than any other race [link]) all boils down to gender essentialism.

There is a lot of evidence that woman criminals are underreported because women are supposedly a "pure gender who can do no wrong", and also because it's deemed "shameful" to admit you're the victim of a woman (for people socially imposed as male its because of toxic masculinity and the shame of being "weaker" than a woman, for people socially imposed as female its because of sapphophobia and the unserious way people treat queer SA.)

This is look-normativity, aphobia, and sapphophobia.

Not everyone will experience aesthetic attraction to every gender. Its so odd how people can understand gendered attraction for romantic and sexual attraction, but cannot conceptualize it for nonrose attraction.
