with sam being introduced the ca:tws in 2014 and officially becoming captain america in a:endgame in 2019, he has been in the mcu, specifically, for 11 years and became captain america for 6 years of that.

s.coups said his solo song is about "surviving 10 years in this jungle-like industry" and being a carat for nearly 10 years as well, it reminded me how seventeen's journey just feels a bit like sam's. sam's resiliency and strength and perseverance he showed throughout his journey as well as the vulnerability and weakness he had shared, not to mention the empathy and kindness he had shown to everyone he has ever met and i think those are the qualities one needs to have in order to survive a "jungle-like industry"

i chose the pre-chorus and chorus part of the song which goes (translated):

game, game, game, third generation that's still rising for the tenth year.

with the line "i dont need a friend, i hate this give and take", i showed walker and the scene where he said it'll be much easier for him to be captain america if he had sam and bucky, or as he called them, "cap's wingmen", by his side. this scene felt like a bad kind of give and take and frankly so insensitive of walker to say

with the line "i don't need respect, your and mine's lives are different", i showed president ross saying "you're not steve rogers" to sam because that scene felt like this line specifically. sam do respect ross as a president, he'd shown it through so many scenes, but at that scene, ross didn't really reciprocate the respect with the way he snarled at sam. but it's fine, because that attitude says more about ross than about sam, and most importantly sam and ross' (and john's) lives are different in every ways that matter.

with the line "i need fans, if i do, i go crazy, feels just right" i showed isaiah and sam's conversation where isaiah said "black captain america, huh?" and sam answered "damn right" which i love. the confidence sam had when he said "damn right" is so great to see. another scene i used was when the civilians cheered and rightfully called him captain america when he saved the truck full of important people from falling. that, to me, is much more important than politicians arguing and deciding who captain america is, it should be the people who's voice matters the most.

with the line "i need love, even if the mountains and rivers change, that will never do" i showed the scenes of sam bonding with the folks of delacroix and with the people he holds dear, his family, sarah, cass and aj, and bucky. because at the core of sam wilson, he is full of love and the most important thing for him is his family. everything in his life might change but his love for his family will never do.

that's all for me yapping about my thoughts of sam wilson and my fave song from seventeen's happy burstday album (even though i am a hardcore boosadan and woozidan) hahaha

"Nah. You're fine, Rogers. You just sit there and look pretty. Take a load off. Keep me company. Actually, while you're still up, grab us both a beer," Sam suggested. He was pleased that he'd earned himself Steve's self-concious, crooked little smirk and that funny thing that he always did with his brows. Sam continued to sweat the vegetables in his big aluminum stock pot, stirring them with a wooden spoon. He paused a moment to glance over his shoulder as Steve opened the fridge and bent down to reach for the cardboard sleeve of beer bottles on the bottom shelf, and Sam gave silent thanks that he'd placed them there. Any opportunity to make Steve bend over to give him an unhindered view of that backside was precious.

Because <i>dayum</i>.

Sam turned back to his pot and mouthed a silent <i>Whoo</i>, then shook his head. <i>Boy, calm down</i>, he chided himself.

"Bottle opener?"

"In that little junk drawer to your left."

"We could've just gone out tonight, if it would've saved you cooking tonight, Wilson. I didn't want you to have to heat up your house."

"If we'd have gone out, you wouldn't have had the chance to try my jambalaya, which you will <i>absolutely</i> thank me for once you try it, and don't you worry about my house." D.C. summers were famously humid, and Sam ignored the sticker shock when he purchased solar panels for his townhouse. The central air conditioning was running at a comfortable seventy-nine degrees, Sam had the range top fan turned on to sweep out the steam, and he was fresh from a shower, scalp still cool from his mildly damp hair. He listened to the crack of the bottlecaps, and he yelped as Steve tapped his bare shoulder with the chilly glass bottle. "You ain't right," Sam told him, but he took the bottle gratefully and took a generous pull from it. "Hits the spot, though."

Steve nodded as he gulped from his, and he sat on one of Sam's barstools at the kitchen island, his firm body making a stately letter 'L' when he rested his heels on the lower run, comfortably bending those lanky legs. "When did you learn to make this?"

"Eh. I used to try to help in the kitchen when Gram-Gran would visit, so I picked up a few things, like basic knife work, but I think… I don't know. Y'know what, I think one of my ex-girlfriends from FAMU taught me how to make this. I just remember that it was amazing this one time that she brought some leftovers back to the dorm, and we all fought over it." Then Sam's tone grew teasing again. "Hope a little spicy food isn't too much for you to handle, Steve."

"I can handle spicy," Steve insisted.

"Mmmmm. I don't know. Someone grew up in the forties, when y'all were eating Cream of Wheat and Jell-O casseroles and you just boiled everything."

"Someone also traveled throughout Europe during their earliest tours with the Army. I had some bouillabaise in Paris that still makes my nose run just thinking about it."

"Ah. Well, la-dee-dah," Sam sang, giving his shoulders an uppity little wiggle as he added the chopped slices of andouille sausage to the pot. The kitchen automatically filled with mouthwatering aromas, and Steve groaned aloud.

"Okay, now I'm starving, and this is torture," he pronounced.

"That's why I also made cornbread," Sam said. "Because I'm not good at waiting, either."

<i>Not good at waiting</i>. Well. Actually.

That was patently false.

Like a film clip, images started speeding through his mind: Things he’d experienced, people he’d met, places he’d been from the moment he met Steve Rogers—as they both were doing their morning run around the reflecting pool at the Washington Monument in DC—to now.

All of that…ending up here, back in the house he grew up in, staring at this fancy, high-tech case.

[“I called in a favor from the Wakandans.” ]

(I’m actually gonna do…this.)

He opened the case and took a breath to steady himself.

There was a schematic on the inside of the case’s lid, and what almost looked like some kind of hieroglyphs. Sam couldn’t decipher it, but he immediately knew where it was from.

He lifted the piece of handwoven fabric that seemed to serve two purposes: beauty and function, as he could see metallic threads woven throughout the rich, surprisingly dense protective cloth.

The fabric had Vibranium woven into it, and under it there were three items:

A wing pack like his broken StarkTech one, but lighter in weight. By feel he immediately knew that these wings, like his shield, were made of virtually unbreakable Vibranium.

A neckpiece that was similar to the one he saw T’Challa wear, but not nearly as large, also far less traditional and ceremonial in design.

And inside a pouch made of the same fabric as the protective cloth, was a beautifully carved wooden box holding a bead bracelet like the kind worn by nearly everyone in Wakanda.

He also found a large envelope containing some official-looking paperwork, and a manual for the items in the case.

On the front of the envelope were Wakandan glyphs, and underneath them it read:

Samuel Wilson - Captain America

He read the opening paragraph of the manual, slipped the bead bracelet (called kimoyo) onto his left wrist as instructed…and shortly felt the beads lightly vibrate as his cellphone rang…
