Paul Simon's Letter to Art Garfunkel, 1957
Salutations-
You won't believe this but I was gonna write to you but i didn't know your camp address. (oh bullshit, I knew your address 'cause i looked it up in a camp directory. I was just too lazy to write). Don't let it bother you though, 'cause I only wrote my mother once so far, and that was the first week. I guess I just don't like to write to boys and mothers.
Let me tell you man, this being a waiter is great. Except for the damn sloppy meals it's great fun. As far as entertainment goes you can imagine what a crazy guitar-thumpin' kid can do to these kids. I've really learned a lot about singing and according to my father, my voice has improved. Oh, yeah, you're gonna crack-up? My father was on the "Ted Steele Show" the other day and he sang a song he made up called "Water in My Ear". It's a real weirdy (?). The kind only my father could think of. Well, anyway, he made a demo of it right off.
Well, I guess I'll sign off now. Send my love to Marilyn and the other nice looking girls...
Paul.
P.S. I've written a new song called "Bobbie". I think it's real good. See ya.
