Triumph Italia 2000 '1959 (Vignale)
Triumph Italia 2000
Triumph Italia 2000
Both two-wheeled and four-wheeled vehicles were produced under the Triumph brand in the UK. Since its founding in 1885, Coventry-based Triumph has been a bicycle manufacturer, motorcycles since 1902, automobiles since 1923. Subsequently, the paths of her automotive and motorcycle divisions diverged. From 1930 to 1944 Triumph Motor Company maintained its independence, selling passenger cars of various classes, including several sports models designed by engineer Donald Healy.
Design Triumph Italia 2000
"A combination of Italian design and British engineering at its best" was the description of the Triumph Italia 2000, presented as a prototype at the 1958 Turin Motor Show. It was designed by renowned designer Giovanni Michelotti, who built the Triumph TR3 Speciale concept car in 1957 , and subsequently designed the bodies of the production Herald and TR4 models for Triumph.

The author of the very idea of creating an Anglo-Italian hybrid was Salvatore Ruffino, the owner of CESAC, which sold Standard-Triumph cars in Italy. After agreeing with Triumph for the supply of 1,000 chassis, he approached several ateliers with cooperation proposals.

His choice fell on the Turin firm Carrozzeria Vignale, where Michelotti worked at that time. But due to the fact that the Vignale did not have enough production capacity for serial production, Ruffino himself took over the bodywork for the Triumph Italia 2000. At the Vignale factory, only the first 13 copies were built, while the rest of the cars were assembled on the CESAC conveyor in Naples.
Design Triumph Italia 2000
Triumph Italia is based on the chassis of the Triumph TR3A roadster with a 2-liter 4-cylinder engine producing 100 hp. A steel 2-seater coupe body with round headlights was installed on it, in contrast to the 1958 prototype, which received pointed front fenders with a bumper that went around them and plastic caps on the headlights.
Under the hood Triumph Italia 2000
An even earlier concept, called the Triumph TR3 Speciale, had tail fins, two-tone wedge-shaped sidewalls, a full-width checkered grille and a hood air intake, but it was more American than European style.
Interior Triumph Italia 2000
The Triumph Italia 2000 offered optional overdrive, Borrani spoke wheels, a Nardi wooden steering wheel and leather upholstery. Ruffino negotiated a verbal contract with all 750 Triumph dealers to transfer one car to each of them, but due to the high price ($ 5,000), the Triumph Italia 2000 did not sell well. In 1961, Standard-Triumph became part of Leyland Motors, and the new management abandoned the project. In total, from 1959 to 1962. 329 units were built. Triumph Italia 2000.
The introduction of the two seater was well received at the 1958 Turin Motor Show. "Italian artistry and British craftsmanship have come together and produced this new, superlative ltalia 2000 Coupe."

We know this model well; having already fully restored an Italy 2000, this car has few secrets for us.
However, as often happens, even this car has its peculiarity that we have never seen before on an Italia 2000 (in this case we are talking about the Vignale body #180): the engine currently installed is not that of original equipment but a replacement made by the Triumph itself and, as a…

Ruffino Riserva Ducale Oro Chianti Classico DOCG ~ Wine of the Day
The wines of Chianti, within Italy’s Tuscany region, are known for their food-friendly flavors, melding perfectly with regional favorites. Bolognese, steak Florentine, and pasta with red sauce pair perfectly with the Sangiovese fruit as it can stand up to the tomato’s acidity while balancing the sweetness that comes through in tomato-based dishes. For over 140 years Ruffino has been crafting…

9.2.2025: Geliebtes Ruffino
"What was it?" Ruffino's little face asked, inquiringly and wistfully, knowing that they looked for something, but not knowing what; unless, indeed, it were the yellow cat. But she, he came to think, it could not be, because every evening from the loggia he saw her sitting, in bumptious and insolent security, upon roof or lintel or gutter, and of her his master took no kind of notice whatever. Ruffino came to the conclusion, so painful to all of us, and coupled with such sad disillusion, that what he thought was of such supreme, universal, imperial importance really did only interest himself alone.
End of Chapter XI of Ruffino by Ouida
"Go, with my curse upon you! stay with your mother's people; waste your days in foolish pleasures, and with singing women, and French jesters, and playwrights and scribblers; never blast my eyes with the sight of you as long as you live!" the furious old man had cried, in his rage, at his defeated projects; and Castiglione had answered not a syllable, but had left Rome that day, and had stayed away from it entirely for three years, until now, when the tidings of the prince's seizure had enforced his return, again, against his wishes. "Death is an ugly thing, Ruffino," he said this evening to his furry little friend. Discordant noises at that moment irritated his ear, and jangled harshly on the sweetness of the falling waters, the singing nightingales, the plaintive, mourning owls. Ruffino barked; he always conceived it to be his paramount duty to add his quota to any noise that he might ever hear.
