Complicated (Ruby X Reader) - Part One
B/F/2/N - Second Best Friend
"That English teacher is going to kill me with all of this work" you said as you sat down with your lunch with your best friends.
"For real. Why does she assign us so much work in the 9th grade? We just entered high school!" said B/F/N.
"Tell me about it." said B/F/2/N and she rolled her eyes and she started to eat her pizza.
You open your sandwich from the foil and start to eat it. A moment later, you looked up and from across the lunch room, you saw Ruby looking at you from his lunch table.
"Not again with this dude." you thought annoyed and you ignored his stare and looked back at your friends while you eat your sandwich.
"So, you guys are going to homecoming?" asked B/F/2/N.
"Sis, I already told you. We are going together." said B/F/N.
"I'm not going." you said and both of your best friends looked at you crazy super quick.
"B*tch what? Why?!" shouted in sync.
"I just don't feel like it." you said and you turn to the side and slip on your water. You were watching Ruby talking to his friends, laughing and having fun.
Your best friends showily turn their head to see what you were looking for. When they saw Ruby, they quickly turned back to me with a glare.
"What?" you said after you turned around with your water in your hand.
"What?" you said as you put your water down on the table.
"What?!" you said with eyes widened as you looked at them.
"Y/N, I thought we went over this." B/F/N said as she put her head on her fist or the hand of her arm on the table as she looked at you.
"Ain't you over him? I thought you were." said B/F/2/N as she looks at you.
"Well, I am. No, I'm not. I am! I don't know!" you said overthinking your feelings about Ruby. You got frustrated so you covered your eyes into your hands.
"Well, I think you should. It's been a couple years, Y/N. He hasn't been calling, texting, talking to you recently, or showing any kind of romantic gesture to you." said B/F/N with a straight face.
"Well d*mn, you didn't have to put it on me that hard." you said after you lifted your eye from your hands and looked at her with eyes widened.
"Truth hurts." said B/F/N after she shrugged their shoulders and started drinking their Pepsi.
"Normally I would disagree with B/F/N's statements, but Y/N, she's right. He has shown no attention or affection for you." said B/F/2/N and you looked at them screwed.
"Y/N, you should go to homecoming with your guy friend, Tory. Y'all always flirting with each other." said B/F/N.
"Guys, we're just friends. I promise you." you said smiling.
B/F/2/N turned their head to look at Ruby across the room and saw him greet Olivia.
"Oof." said B/F/2/N and you and B/F/N turned to her.
"What is it?" asked B/F/N and both of you looked at what she was looking at. B/F/N cringed while your eyes widened at Ruby and Olivia.
"How long has Olivia been going to our school?"
"Two weeks after school started." said B/F/2/N and they looked at you to see if you were upset.
"Y/N?" asked B/F/2/N while B/F/N looked at you.
You were deep in your thoughts as you saw Olivia putting her hair behind her ear when Ruby was talking to her.
You suddenly have this energy and you quickly get up from the table, leaving your lunch, and start to walk towards them at a fast pace.
"Y/N!" shouted B/F/N as she got up and stood at the lunch table.
You walked over there with a grimace and quickly plastered a fake smile on your face once you got close to the table.
"Hey guys." you said with a fake smile as you interrupt Olivia and Ruby's conversation.
Cesar and Monse saw you in front of Olivia and Ruby with their mouths shaping into "O". Jamal quickly ran to your best friends knowing it's about to go down.
"Hey Y/N. How are you?" asked Olivia happily.
"Good. You?" you said trying to act normal.
"Good. Are you going to homecoming?"
"Um..." you said as you took a look at Ruby as you thought of an answer.
"Yeah, .with somebody else." you said and Ruby's face fell to your answer. You didn't notice.
"That's great! I was thinking about going with Ruby. Is that fine?" asked Olivia as she turned to Ruby.
"Um..." said Ruby as he took a look at you for a moment and turned back to Olivia.
"Yeah, totally! Let's plan out what we are going to wear and win homecoming lord and lady." Ruby said with a grin, making your heart burn in jealousy.
“Did Ruby just..." Monse whispered to Cesar.
"Man. I didn't expect that at all." whispered Cesar.
Your face fell and you flipped your hair to get yourself together.
"Fine Ruby. Since you want to play that game. It. Is. On!" you thought furiously as Olivia ended the hug.
"That's great! Y'all are totally going to win." you said with a fake smile and quickly went out to the hallway.
As you look back into the cafeteria, you peak behind a corner to see Olivia talking to Ruby excitingly about homecoming.
Ruby turns his head and you quickly hide behind the corner so he doesn't see you.
You were in the hallway trying to analyze what just happened and you slowly slid down the wall, ending up sitting on the floor.
You hear footsteps and you turn your head to see your best friends
"It's on." you said with a serious face and you quickly got up, walked away upset from your best friends, and went up the stairs to class aggressively.
"Oh no." said your best friends syncing and they quickly went after you.
You paced back and forth in your room aggressively as your best friends just looked at you while sitting on your bed after school.
"I can't believe he said that! To my face!" you shouted upset.
"He's going to homecoming with that... chica! Like a boy I'm totally cuter than her."
"He really wants to play this game with me! He's seriously just going to act like we got nothing going on between us when we got something!" you shouted with your hands on your head while still pacing.
"Y/N!" shouted your best friends, syncing once more and you stopped pacing. You walked over to your bed and then fell on it with your head on your pillow face down.
"Y/N. Let's show him what he's missing. We're going shopping!" said B/F/N and your best friends squealed in excitement while looking at you.
You looked at them crazy from the pillow. B/F/N walked over to you and pushed you out of the bed making you scream for your life.
"Um, ow! I hate you!" you shouted as you lay on the floor crunching your body from falling off the bed.
"Aw, I love you too." B/F/N said as both of your best friends looked down at you from your bed.
"Now, get up. We are going shopping for homecoming." said B/F/2/N. You got up, grabbed your purse and walked out of your room with them.
"Why are homecoming dresses so expensive? This isn't prom." said B/F/2/N as your best friends look at dresses while you sit on the bench looking at them shopping.
"They just are. Y/N, are you going to pick your dress?" asked B/F/N as they pick up two dresses they like to try on.
"Yeah. Give me a second." you said and you start to text your mom if she can pick up the three of you from the mall as they went into dressing rooms.
What you didn't know is that Ruby and Olivia entered the same store you were in.
"So, I'm going to try these on and we will be done." said Olivia with a bunch of dresses in her hand a few minutes later.
"Okay. Take your time." said Ruby and Olivia went into one of the free dressing rooms.
Ruby sighed and sat on a bench that was a few feet from you. Ruby turned his head and his eyes widened to see you just sitting there.
You felt somebody staring at you. You turned your head and saw Ruby looking at you. You quickly turn away and gain a pink blush.
"I hope he didn't see that." you whispered to yourself. You quickly got up, grabbed a few dresses you were interested in, and went into the free dressing room to try on.
30 minutes later, you were walking out with your best friends with bags filled with your dresses, shoes, and jewelry for homecoming.
You stopped to see Ruby and Olivia eating ice cream at the food court.
"I wish I could run up and tackle her and start to beat her up with my high heel." you thought furiously as you turn your head back straight
Luckily, you and your best friends left without Ruby or Olivia not noticing you guys or things would have turned completely left.
You were currently getting ready to go to Ruby's house for Jamal's "win" at the homecoming game two weeks later. Jamal somehow got back on the team and was able to play in front of his parents. Surprisingly he made the winning touchdown.
You were wearing a F/C top with a checkerboard mini skirt and your favorite brand shoes. You looked in the mirror for some finished touches and left your house.
You arrived at Ruby's house and it was already packed with kids drinking, playing, dancing, and making out. You grab a drink and head back to the backyard to see your best friends and Tory chatting with each other.
"Y/N!" said your best friends in sync and they ran up to you and hugged you tight.
"Hey guys." you said after the hug ended and Troy came over and hugged you.
You hugged him back tightly and B/F/N took a picture.
"Hey!" you said as you quickly stopped the hug.
"What? You two are adorable." said B/F/N and your best friends looked at the photo while you rolled your eyes.
"Yo Y/N, I signed us up to perform. Is that fine?" asked Troy with a smile.
"Really? Okay, I didn't expect to perform tonight but it's fine. We should do song #234." you said smiling back at him.
"F/S by F/A? That's such a good song to perform." said Troy with a smile.
"I know. You're going to do amazing." you said and you heard a hello from the speakers and you turn to see Ruby on the little stage.
"Hey guys. This party is for my dear friend Jamal for winning our homecoming game." said Ruby and everybody started to clap and cheer for Jamal as he waves like he's royalty. You giggled a bit.
"So now we have a bit of a performance from two of our classmates and that is,” said Ruby and he looks at the paper of the sign up. "Y/N and Troy?!"
Ruby with his eyes widened as everybody clapped as you and Tory came up to the little stage. Ruby got off to stand on the side with his friends.
"Ruby looked shocked when he read our names. I think it's finally my turn to return the favor." you thought as you grab a microphone along with Troy.
"Hey, make sure you look interested in me for people to believe that we are into it. It's part of a good performance." you whispered to Tory.
"Okay." whispered Troy as both of you face the crowd and the instrumental of your song came on.
You were kinda surprised by how good you two were performing. You were so proud of Troy because he was kinda shy but a good dancer. Everybody got hyped when you guys did the dance break.
While you performed, you saw glances of Ruby looking at you and Troy like he was jealous.
When both of you finished performing, everybody cheered while both of you came off stage.
"Troy! You did so good!" you said and you jumped into Tory's arms and he hugs you tight.
"Thank you." said Troy as you ended the hug. Both of you started talking until you heard a fake cough. You turned your heads to see Ruby with a fake smile on his face.
"Ooo, it's about to go down." said B/F/N getting excited and starting to record on their phone.
"You guys did great," said Ruby.
"Thanks. Y/N is such a natural at performing, I don't think I can keep up." Troy said and he put his right arm around you.
"Awe, you did amazing. You're so sweet." you said happily after you turned to him and you held Troy's hand that was wrapped around you with your right hand.
"I wish I could fight this dude with my bare hands." thought Ruby as he looked at both of you.
"Y/N? Can I ask you a question?" asked Troy as he moved his arm from your shoulder and faced you.
