Does anyone remember that post a few weeks (or maybe a couple of months ago), when I raised a huge stink over my graduated geed friend, Charlotte’s, decision to take a full year internship (and eventually a full-time job) at The de Bourgh Life, working as Colin’s personal assistant? Well, I might be a huge hypocrite.Â
I’ve decided to take on an internship over the winter break, and guess who it’s with? That’s right. The de Bourgh Life. In my defense, the position I’m taking is a lot more transient than Charlotte’s, and I probably won’t have to spend as much time as her with annoying Colin (I really hope he doesn’t read this). Also, Catherine de Bourgh has built a fantastic career through her writing (there’s even a rumor going around that she might be hosting a talk-show style vlog soon). If I want to do something similar, it might be a good idea to learn from someone who has already done it. Still, there’s nothing like feeling like a sell-out.Â
To be completely honest, I’m rather nervous about the whole thing. It will be my first time meeting, to quote Colin, “The Great Lady.” Is she really as opinionated as her website makes her seem? How much of it does she actually run herself? Also, how often am I going to have to listen to Colin quoting something she’s said or written?
To top it all off, I know that Catherine de Bourgh is family friends with awful William Darcy’s mom. If he somehow shows up at Rosings Way while I’m working there, I think I might scream.
Oh well. Here’s to paid internships while still fulfilling graduation requirements!
