Continuing my Blade Breaker reread with Chapter 29 (Worn to Bones, Worn to Blood, Domacridhan):
1. Dom, thinking on Taristan: “It is his life or mine. One will end today.”
Man is so careless with his life. 😭 Plus, it’s kinda fun that he pretty much thinks this about Sorasa and Taristan—that one of them is going to be the death of him.
2. Dom, to Sorasa: “Did they teach you siegecraft in your guild?”
Sorasa, to Dom: “Somehow I missed that lesson. I can slip a gate or cross a wall, but not with an army holding my skirts.”
I’m obsessed with their little conversations. Seeking each other’s opinions, running through options together.
Sorasa looked just as stricken.
“How bad is it?” she whispered, still staring at the horizon. “Tell me truly, Domacridhan.”
LOVE her little moments of humanity. 🥹
4. Sorasa KNOWS how badly Dom wants to go after Taristan. She keeps trying to pull him away, trying to keep Dom alive despite his best efforts. And that will only continue. 😮💨
5. Dom, on Sorasa: “She was the same as ever, a viper in a woman’s body. Her daggers were fangs, her whip a lashing tail. She had her poisons still.
Sorasa tightened under his scrutiny but held her ground, unblinking as the horse trotted beneath her. The snow landed on her upturned face, white flakes clinging to dark lashes and black hair.”
Something about this description just sits right in my soul. She’s a snake, but she’s their snake. 😌
6. Gods bless Sigil. She’s always so down for anything. Krakens, dragons, hellhounds—it doesn’t matter, she’s got it covered.
7. Tell me why I want to CRY as Ridha shows up with the Jydi. 😭 I’m so, so glad Dom gets to see her again, even if it’s for the last time. 😭
8. On Ridha and Dom: “He laughed as she caught him around the middle, nearly lifting him off the ground. For a split second he was a child again, dragged back through the centuries.”
I can just imagine the other Companions watching Dom be SO gleeful. 😂 And I love how it’s like, she’s lifting him up instead of vice versa.
9. On Oscovko: “Oscovko blinked between Eyda and Ridha, slackjawed. Dom nearly reached over and tapped his mouth shut.”
You just KNOW Oscovko is picturing himself in the middle of the world’s greatest sandwich.
10. Valtik is that bitch. 😌😌😌
“Into the jaws of death we go,” Ridha murmured.
Sorasa was the first to climb back into the saddle, snapping her reigns.
“You get used to it,” she said over her shoulder.
I’m not sure if there are any other interactions between Ridha and Sorasa, but I guess I’m about to find out. (Jumping ahead, there is a brief interaction when Ridha pushes Sorasa and Corayne out of the way of the black knight, but that’s about it.) I said it earlier in my chapter reviews, but I would LOVE for more Sorasa and Ridha interactions. They would have so much fun making fun of Dom. 🥺
12. Dom, on Ridha: “He could not even fathom the loss of her, not now when she was real and breathing before him.”
Bruh. 😭 Add another ghost to Dom’s closet.
13. Everyone doing their own rituals, battle cries, and prayers. 🥺
