i believe certain reforms such as creamy layer and strict action against fraudulent certificates should be taken to reform reservation. but people who advocate removing it altogether are being completely tone deaf.
have you ever thought so much about removing casteism in your community? why does the house help in your home use a different utensil to drink water? why do people kill people from lower castes for breathing in the same space as them till date? why is the rate of inter-caste marriage so low in india even today?
and before any anons come at me with their faux argument of "merit," i'm speaking this as someone from the unreserved category. so pack it up and acknowledge the truth.
[I made a reservation at the restaurant of love. Where they only have tables for two. Instead of taking my order, the waiter gave me a kiss. Instead of food, I ate perfume. The love restaurant failed its recent health inspection. Because the kitchen is infested with rats. I'm not talking love rats; these are regular rats. And they're biting all the customers and staff. I got food poisoning at the love restaurant. Pretty sure it was caused by the rats. I posted a one-heart review on Yelp.com/love. Then the business owner contacted me privately. He said, 'Why'd you give my restaurant a one-heart review?' I said, 'Because it was full of rats.' He said, 'This is a small business, and this review could ruin me.' He cried over the phone and said he was trying his best.]
Since the fight for students' rights is going on, can the torch bearer of democracy and Student's rights, CJP, also raise the issue of reservations??
When a student scoring 620 misses out on a seat while far lower scores secure admission, hard work is completely devalued. This artificial bottleneck pushes high-achievers into a state of absolute hopelessness.
You cannot talk about student well-being without addressing how the current system actively punishes merit.

the youth of india that has submitted to facism and right wing politics very conveniently complains about reservations but not about the lack of opportunities and seats by the government.
like do you really think by removing reservation, there would still be enough seats in institutions for lakhs of students?
the entire entrance system is a symptom of govt incapability to provide basic higher education and jobs and trap the youth into giving exams and blame their failure on students/candidates/people for not cracking them.
again, what good can come from the generation that believes that the government's responsibility is to build temples rather than focus on important things like education, infrastructure, development etc. these terms are almost non existent and alien.
People who have problems with reservation, don't understand that removing it is not a solution to end castism and it's not the primary step either...
Castism is still deep rooted in people's minds that even if reservation is removed, the mindset of people is still going to be really hard to change.
People still face castism even if they are rich, just like how queer people face homophobia despite having good money.
People still get killed for marrying "lower" castes, there are still some retards who take pride in their so-called "upper" castes.
In Rajasthan - Haryana, many (not all but the majority) Meenas, Rajputs and Jaats take pride in their caste, they have such a superior complex that they won't miss a chance to make you feel like you are somehow a low life
And in Punjab (the one who told me about this one is my friend who lives there), there are many (again not all) Punjabis who consider Bihari people as lower than them
Not to mention that even in developing countries, people face racism and you mean to say that ending reservation is gonna solve the problem? It will only increase it more than it already is...
In order to remove the reservation, you will have to remove the castism which is deep rooted in people's minds and that is gonna take at least a decade to happen.
