I do think an AU where the Bridgers never got caught would be FASCINATING. Like, in canon so much of Ezra’s personality and will to resist the Empire comes from Mira and Ephraim, so he’d probably be even more willing to openly fight the Empire than he originally was at the beginning of the show. The Bridgers were massively influential in the early rebellion, so I could definitely see them being involved with Ahsoka and her Fulcrum network by the time the show starts. Maybe Ezra’s already been working with the Spectres to provide relief to Tarkintown and other areas of Lothal by the time of Season 1.
I think he’d still end up going with the Spectres when Kanan makes his apprenticeship offer, but it would probably be a much harder decision because he already has a family and a place in the Rebellion, but at the same time he feels the call of the Force and wants to become a Jedi. I can see his parents having a kind of TPM Shmi style conversation, where they recognize that Ezra leaving is what he needs to do, that he’s meant to be a Jedi, and they help convince him to go with the Spectres.
The Spectres having a more permanent home base on Lothal in one of the Bridgers’ safehouses, them helping with the comm tower mission, additional stakes in the Siege of Lothal when they have to leave the Bridgers behind, Ezra listening to his parents’ broadcasts throughout the series, them watching as Ezra disappears for the last time in Season 4… ough
