You know, something I would like to see with the Age of Sigmar Gotrek stories is Gotrek actually accomplishing one of his goals. I doubt we’ll see him remove the Master Rune, that’s not really the goal I’m talking about. Since his first appearance in AoS, he’s been talking about finding Felix, finding his Axe, and giving the Gods a real how-do-ya-do for playing with his fate and not giving him his DOOM.
I know some fans wouldn’t wanna see Ol’ Felix as a Stormcast, but I’m all for it. I actually think this is a goal Gotrek coulda accomplished by now, if BL allowed him to. Especially if the Felixcast fella starts hearing rumors of an enraged slayer Demi-god running around calling himself Gotrek and feels a stab of nostalgia down in his ancient heart- feeling compelled to seek this slayer out. That, and I think a cool quest to find his old axe would be grand!
I still haven’t finished Gitslayer, I’m about halfway in, so who knows. Maybe one of these things happen by that time. It would be cool, but I doubt it. Gotrek, though, I think he deserves a win in this way. To find something of his, of the old world; be it his slayer’s axe, or his human poet husband in whatever form the man has taken in these realms. I’d also like to see human poet husband meet Gotrek’s Murder Aelf wife, and the three of them retire to a nice cabin where they all bang it out together and spite the gods every day. The end.
Realmslayer - Blood of the Old World
Is great. Honestly; it’s just a great listen. Thoroughly entertaining, through-and-through. I enjoyed it MUCH more than Realmslayer and would certainly recommend it as one of the best Audio Dramas set in Age of Sigmar so far.
In particular it has an absolutely hilarious style to it via the Skaven. Thanquol and his misfit band of Skaven are just funny no matter what they are doing and my biggest regret is just that all of them but Thanquol die. But, alas, this is just a reoccurring problem in Black Library fiction where it’s best not to get attached to any antagonist because they rarely survive more than a book, no matter how entertaining they are.
I prefer Gotrek in this one somewhat, to how much of an arse he was in the original Realmslayer, but I personally still like Maleneth more, and even Jordais and Whitrum are more fun to me then Gotrek personally.
I also was surprised, but happily so, when the story just decides to up and make Thanquol more powerful than Gotrek. In their final engagement, the last battle, Gotrek is just going to die and lose to a vermintide cast by Thanquol and needs to summon Grimnir, the literal god of Asqhy who’s using Gotrek as a vessel, to save his butt.
Neat!
The dialogue is a treat throughout, the Skaven as I said have some of the best, but Maleneth also has a lot of really good banter with Gotrek and, in particular, Whitrum. Maleneth x Whitrum I guess I will start the ship myself if I need to, admittedly Whitrum seems to be dead (it’s ambiguous) so who knows!
Anyway; Blood of the Old World is a fun, engaging, entertaining listen that can drag on a little bit at some points, but actually has a fairly poignant ending, and very fun characters.
Osayande, played by Connie M’Gadzah
The new Warhammer: Age of Sigmar audiobook sounds briliian.
Brian Blessed as Gotrek is just the best decision Black Library made.

Gotrek Gurnisson was the greatest monster slayer of the age, who met his doom at the End Times. The heroic duardin stepped forth into the Realm of Chaos to fight the daemons gnawing at the world's ending and satisfy his death oath, leaving behind his companion Felix Jaeger. Now Gotrek has returned, having outlived the old gods and the Old World. Spat from the ruinous depths with his redemption unfulfilled, he emerges into the Mortal Realms, a strange new world where gods walk the earth and dark forces are ascendant. Nothing is as he remembers. His oaths are dust, and the lands are torn asunder by Chaos. Yet when Gotrek learns of human champions being elevated to immortality for Sigmar’s fight against this darkness, the so-called 'Stormcast Eternals', he knows why fate has brought him into this new age. To find Felix. For only then can he find the peace in death he seeks. But is there more to Gotrek's apotheosis than even he can fathom? Has he truly been chosen by Grimnir and for what purpose?
Maleneth, played by Penelope Rawlins
Gotrek Gurnisson, after he swore his oath to die in battle, often joked that with his luck, he’d probably survive …
