Playing the Silent Hill 2 remake. Initial thoughts after about an hour and a half of running around the town: it’s fine. Listen, I like the Silent Hill formula of perilously running around a mostly empty downtown/suburban area trying to find missing pieces to various puzzles while ambient ookie sounds play. If you give me that, I’m going to have a good time, but already this is not as engrossing and atmospheric as the original Silent Hill 2. Of course it’s not, though, it was never gonna be, but I was hoping to feel pulled in as quickly as SH2 makes you feel.
Dorothy’s going out of town, so I’ll be pretty bored during the week. This will at least give me something to do. If it ends up wowing me, I’ll report back, but so far no wow. Especially not from the combat and the games’ James-camera positioning. It’s far more violent, but that takes me right out of the whole thing.

Man, you won’t believe what this did to my elementary schooler brain. This was the first video game I owned, and this intro burned itself into everything I see as cool and desirable today.

Stonehenge by Moonlight - James Arthur O'Connor (1792–1841)
Depression truly does love to bloom for me in the Summertime. It’s so much harder to manage, so much harder to enjoy anything. I wish it wain’t the case, because the sky is so beautiful and everything is so green, but it is.
