Not sure how unknown Razorbeast is considering he was in both IDW BW runs, but I genuinely really loved him in the 2006 run. Thanks!

wada sez: This strip by Mosaic project lead Josh van Reyk was originally published to cap off 2010. It serves to connect Transmetal 2 Prowl to the G1 character of the same nameâseen in the background of the fifth panel in his The War Within design. As stated in the last panel, this strip leads directly into Prowlâs appearance in the final issue of The Gatheringâthough thereâs a strange error, because in the actual comic, Prowl is actually asking a question: âProblem, Razorbeast?â See below for a high-resolution preview panel.
Dear Vector Prime, exactly what is the Transmetal Driver? Megatron just seemed to have it without any explanation, and all we know of its powers is it stores Vok data, can upgrade techno-organics to Transmetal 2s, and even in some instances repair fatal wounds or even revive the dead, in the case of Blackarachnia.
Dear Driver Delver,
The Vokâs infamous âPlanet Busterâ was more than just a simple superweapon. During the Vokâs stay on Earth, the enigmatic aliens initially moved the artificial moon into prehistoric Earthâs orbit to act as a blunt terraforming instrument: its gravitational influence caused increased tectonic activity, which made it easier for the Vok to seed the young worldâs crust with abundant supplies of raw energon. More importantly, however, the artificial moonâs unprepossessing surface concealed a sophisticated suite of sensory instruments and a interconnected network of data spheres, each one a library of information relating to the project: at any given moment, the moon was scanning the world below and gathering raw data on the planetâs atmospheric conditions, the evolution of its flora and fauna, and the development of sapient life-forms.
When the Cybertronians carelessly blundered into the Vokâs careful laboratory, automated sensors aboard the moon turned a fragment of its attention to the aliens. Using scans of Optimus Primalâs biology, combined with ongoing observation of what the Transformers dubbed the âBeast Warsâ, the moon gathered a great deal of data regarding their biology, history, and sociology. In time, its archives had gathered and processed all the necessary data required to forge and program a protoform from raw materials, then improve upon the base design to create genetically modified warriors whose sparks could crystallize into solid form to manifest supernatural telekinetic abilitiesâuntil the day moonâs frustrated creators put their contingency plan into play and wiped the slate clean.
The Planet Busterâs destruction rained chunks of debris across the planet and wiped out almost all of the Vokâs accumulated Earth archivesâsave for a small fragment of the Planet Buster which fell to Earth and remained buried in a riverbank for some time until the Predacon Inferno discovered the strange device while on patrol. Intrigued by the alien data encoded within the disk, Megatron experimented further on what he dubbed the âTransmetal driverâ, and its hard-coded ability to manipulate the Cybertronian genome to create enhanced warriors. However, the Transmetal driver had been damaged by its passage through Earthâs atmosphere and corrupted by the quantum surge. Cybertronians exposed to its energies did indeed evolve into stronger forms, but both their robot and alternate forms became monstrous amalgamations of organic flesh and living metal, and most struggled to control their own beast mode instincts. Combined with the long-lasting effects of the quantum surge, some of the crashed stasis pods on Earth, who would go on to play a role in the conflict between Magmatron and Razorbeast, would be affected to varying degrees by the long-distance radiation it produced over time.

Concept sketch of a skirmish against the Maximals and the upgraded Cassettes. An IDW adjacent version of the Transmetal events, though instead of Ravage, the Tripredacus Council sends a small unit of other cassettes, Laserbeak, Buzzsaw, Overkill and Slugfest, to deal with Megatron and any interfering Maximals on âEnergoaâ.
The idea I had in mind is along with retaining their old cassette forms, they could also Transform into Vehicon like vehicle modes. Overkill would Transform into a Tankor style tank, but would have dinosaur characteristics.
Nyx was meant to be part of the sketch but I forgot to include her alongside Cheetor. I figure she and Skold would have Transmetal forms, but I donât know for sure what theyâd look like.
That old Beast Wars comic didnât have much going for it by way of story, weak premise and WAY too many characters, but the illustrations were gorgeous and my boi Razorbeast stuck out as leading mech. If any character got salvaged from that half-ass comic I want it to be him, let him transition into other media! This character deserves to thrive in the fandom.
Primus give me one interaction with Rattrap at least! Theyâre enough alike that they wouldnât get along and I live for Rattrap having antagonistic friendships. đ đđ
