Ranginui

I have reason to believe I made some sort of connection with Ranginui today. Either that or it was pure coincidence, but I like to have faith of divine intervention, even if it was something small.

Some context, it was scheduled to rain today. Very, very heavily. I do not like the rain (it sends me into a panic for reasons I wish to not discuss), so I wanted to go outside and have a smoke before it started raining too heavily.

And it started raining.

Not pouring down, a harsh sprinkle, if anything. I decided to softly sing the one karakia I know word for word, which just so happens to be a karakia to stave off rain... and it worked.

It stopped raining while I was outside and resumed shortly after I went back inside.

Some may think im crazy, or delusional, but I feel as if this was more than a coincidence.

Rangi and Papa, Ranginui (Sky Father) and Papatuanuku (Earth Mother) appear in the Maori creation myth.They are the primordial couple who live in a perpetual embrace. Their children are locked between them, until Tāne, god of forests and birds, with the help of his god-brothers, forces them apart to create the world around us, but forever separating their parents.

He is the Sun  I am the Earth  The closer we get  The more that it hurts  Oh how I wish  To look at my Sun  But each time I do  I’m blinded by love  Alone in my forest  I lay sleepless  Never weary  Light pouring in  As always endearing  The warmth of it all Soars into my roots  Filling my heart  With infinite proof  Our love will live  Through all of our days  No matter what  That’s how we’ll stay  “I wish, I wish” Our skies cried out  “That the two loves of my life  could dance together for one night” But alas our poor sky  That wish has been made  We’ve known this dance  From whence we were made  Alone but together  The Sun and the Earth  Forever we’ll stay  Since the day we were birthed  Just out of reach  Just out of sight  This is our dance  For the rest of our lives
