[ introducing, the species, the species that Fogs the line of Flora and Fauna, THE --
giga Carnivorous Flora
Known as
"Hungry poppies"
Of course, in here i'd have to talk about the Hungry poppy's ā Life, reproduction cycle, Roles, strength, predators ā and much more! Under the cut
--
--
Recorded Places of Hungry poppies:
The Hungry poppies' thriving land, was determined to be the land of spiders, also known as "Australia".
Tho they can be found in South and far west of the continent of America, along side the British kingdom. Historians discovered that it was the doings of the "British empire" before it fell.
Prehistoric Hungry poppies:
In the year 2011, scientists discovered That the species as a whole had grown beside the massive insects, proven by discovering old left out holes by the ancient females of the species in some of the massive insects fossilized exoskeleton. And without any more massive insects and predators that were designed to hunt them perfectly, giga Carnivorous Flora thrived and flourished. Until mammals started evolving, creating problems for the giga Carnivorous Flora.
And as evolution takes it course, we were left out with todays "hungry poppies", but sadly since their bodies never fossilized, scientists were left to theorized that the ancient Hungry poppies were 2 times bigger than today's, because of the holes sizes in the exoskeleton.
But suprisingly, one of the scientists noticed that Current day hungry poppies males have massive saw like blades in one of the vines, which has wooden like structure making it the hardest part in the whole species. And so after a lot more searching, the scientist discovered the same wooden structure but fossilized from the age of prehistoric massive insects. And by comparing it to old founds of exoskeletons, it was estimated that ancient prehistoric Hungry poppies were 3 times bigger and thicker than the current times of Hungry poppies.
Young Newborns ā "babpy":
Random Basic information:
The name, "babpy" was chosen as a mix of the word "baby" and "poppy".
Babpies are the weakest of their species, and with it Roots connected to it mother or father, babpies are a Very nutritious source of food for bigger bugs or arachnids to eat. But babpy is always defended by their parents.
A babpy's vines are very weak, to the point where they feel like leafs that move around.
A babpy is double the size of a regular poppy flower.
Food and nutritions:
Due to their body size, Babpies have got it Food consist of; small spiders, caterpillars, butterflies, and centipedes.
They also take energy from photosynthesis via their petals. And required nutritions from their and their Parents Connected Roots with water.
Predators:
Being THE easiest target ever as long as the parents of the Babpies do not notice, makes them the target of many Predators such as; Bigger spiders, birds, owls, and cows.
Strengths:
Unlike their parents, Babpies can take on the venom of the last Venomous/poisonous pray they ate. And they use it by causing small spikes to emerge from their vines. The quality of the venom is weaker than the original.
Gender Role:
Babpies from the day of birth are Non gendered. Their gender differs depending on the nutritions, environment, and family.
For example, if a family of Hungry poppies have more females than males, the babpies will grow into a male, And vice versa. And this is determined by "sex signatures" that are within the parents Roots, and so if too many female signatures are received the babpy will grow into a male, and vice versa. All of which happens within a massive and complex Root system. And so the whole family shares all of their nutrition.
But if the environment is Very dangerous for the babpy and somehow survived, they'd grow to a gender that will help with survival in the harsh environment. Which depends on sensory information and more nutrition.
Growth hierarchy:
When growing, babpies take in 2 important factors in the following order -
1. If they are connected with a Bunch/family;
If yes, then take gender depending on "sex signatures"
If not, use factor number 2
2. If they are in a harsh environment without being in a Bunch/family;
If yes, grow into a female OR male depending on the environment/nutrition
Adult Male ā "poppycha":
Random Basic information:
The name "poppycha" is a mix of the words "Poppy" and "Chainsaw".
These are the adult males of the hungry poppies, and they are well known to be the biggest within their species and the strongest, known for their thick vines and circular chainsaw like appendage.
It is near the the top chain of food, being able to kill and consume Packs of dingos easily, kangaroos, and many other predators. Tho the only predator it cannot compete with are crocodiles because of their hard skin.
They are the size of 1.5 Fully grown adult Humans.
Food and nutritions:
poppychas are very high within the ecosystems they reside in, making them feed of many animals such as; Cows, sheep, kangaroos, bulls, dingos, snakes, and much more.
They still take energy from photosynthesis.
And take water, fertilizers, and other minerals, from their Roots.
Predators:
While not exactly predators, crocodiles and Humans are still a massive enemies for poppychas.
Crocodiles don't attack, but ambush, which isn't good for poppychas as their saw blades take time to reach optimal speeds for cutting.
And humans... Are Humans, i do not need to explain further.
Strengths:
poppychas are well known for their Saw blades. A motor powered like function that spins a 4 point ended appendage, slowly but building up speed each time it completes a full circle, making it a very dangerous yet helpful defensive and offensive tool.
But because it takes a very long time to reach a proper speed that can cut through most prey, poppychas always do an equation of time to see if it worth wasting energy to use such great weaponry.
And if the equation says no, they default to their Vines, similar to the leafy vines of their children but much bigger and thicker, used to slowly suffocate the prey or foe, by forcing it down their throats.
Gender Role:
Being the males, poppychas have the responsibility to Breed, caretake, and defend their hoard.
Historical tides:
poppychas have appeared within the drawings on caves and stones of the ancient civilizations of Australia.
poppychas in these drawings are depicted to be a sort of manifesto of a deity and have been dubbed the "million petals flower", a deity that represented nourishments and strength. Probably due to their saw blades.
Adult Females ā "Vinepy"
Random Basic information:
The name Vinepy, comes from a combination of the word "Vine" and "Poppy".
Vinepies are well known for their autonomous Vines, the longest in the species reaching lengths of 10 Meters. With Very strong thrusts, that can cause serious deadly damage or death to any living animal. Aside Bulls or dingos, as both are very hard to deal with.
Vinepies are the size of a regular Human being.
Food and nutritions:
With their very dangerous vines, Vinepies have quite the diversity of Food, which includes; snakes, bugs, kangaroos, cows, sheep, birds, and Crocodiles. Yes crocodiles, more on that later.
Photosynthesis for energy.
Roots for water and other minerals.
Predators:
While bulls don't actively hunt Vinepies, Just merely protect themselves if needed.
Dingos do, and here's why; While a Vinepy is fairly strong on it own, it's still limited. And that limitations comes to only having 2 vines at max, while good at handling prey, it's Very bad at handing packs, and that comes down to dingos. Which hunt down any Vinepy (as long as thr Vinepy is not protected by a male) for the Vinepy's nutrition which is far richer then Babpies.
Which is why poppychas always help their Vinepies with dealing with Dingos and other pack hunters.
Strengths:
A Vinepy's strength comes with in various ways.
Which includes their vines; You see, Vinepy Vines are very dangerous, it got some yellowish spikes that will cause bleeding, and that's just scratching the surfer. Vinepy vines can thrust, accelerating from stationary (0 meters p/s) to 25 meters per second within 30 seconds. And the grip on those vines is undeniably one of the best grips on earth, as on the tip of each yellows spike on the vine, a small microscopic Hook is present, making escaping a Vinepy's vine a lost cause.
And in another way, Vinepies have Very good Reaction time, not the best in the world, but Good enough to noticed fast moving predators or prey, and Catch hand thrown spears.
All of which helps Vinepies with eating crocodiles.
Gender Role:
Even while being a female, Vinepies still have the roles of Reproduction, caretaking, and defending, for their family.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
With all of that, let's talk about other things within the Species, such as ā
Reproduction:
Like many flowers and plants, hungry poppies use pollin for reproduction. But because of their size, the hungry poppies pollin is too big for bees or any Organism to carry them around, so what happens to insure the species survival and reproduce?, well, let me show you how they know when a mate is available or good for reproduction ā
the poppycha and Vinepy know when to breed when 2 factors are met; 1- if they're close enough for face to Face contact breeding. 2- if each one's face has pollin for breeding. NOW we can get into the breeding process!
(... I need better phrasing next time -_- ...)
First ā a poppycha and a Vinepy will start a face to Face contact, with no spaces between. In that stage the poppycha and Vinepy pollin will react, to create the true pollin that will hold the offsprings. Because of which, they'll grow a tree like bark around them with a lot of, 2 feet long, almost transparent, sensitive tissue that with guide their attacking and defending appendages towards whatever is interfering to eliminate the outsider.
2- afterwards, the poppycha's saw appendage will cut the tree like bark around them, freeing the male and female. After which, the Vinepy will brush her Vine around them on the floor, the places where the vines are brushed are always in close proximity to the two parents.
3- the little offsprings with start to sprout. Their sprouting takes on 3 stages, starting with growing a perfectly normal plant stem with noticeable Blood like vessels, then slowly growing the head, before fully sprouting into a babpy.
Other reproduction ways:
The reproduction way above is the "Normal" one. Called the "Mouthed reproduction" by scientists, let look at the other ways ā
"AirWay reproduction" :
This way of reproduction happens to lone adults, it only occurres when air is highly strong and fast enough to transport the pollen. The adults will take the pollen of their faces, and lunch it into the air, which creates massive yellowish clouds of pollen.
When male pollen meets the female pollen, they instantly harden and fall from the sky like rain, creating what is known as "Pollen rain", which sometimes cancels schools or work days, as special work forces come to take the babpy in early stages before they reach adult hood, and cause serious harm.
This is also how the British empire accidentally spread them, because the pollen sometimes gets stuck in the fur of dogs or hair of some men or women.
"Othermate reproduction" :
Note This only happens within massive families.
Sometimes, a female without pollen after Reproduction with her mate, and the male still got spare pollen on the Face. The pollenless female will encourage other females to reproduce with own their mate, and vice versa for husbands.
Which of course, spiked controversy across the internet (especially in the USA) about how "Weak Bonded" and "Cheater Full" families of Hungry poppies are.
Movement:
Yes, they move. But one could say they're the slowest moving terrestrial organism ever.
An individual will be Moving at a staggering, 5 Centimeters Per Hour. And that's scales downwards with the family size, a regular family (1 male 1 female 10 to 20 offsprings) will move ~10% slower then an individual.
And that's very valid, because afterall, their own Roots are the ones who help them move by slowly moving the dirt from the front of a Root to the behind of the Root, Via specialized cells.
Mass Fertilization:
To explain mass Fertilization, we need to look into the consumption and digestive system of Hungry poppies.
When eating a living Organism, the Hungry poppy will start by draining all of the blood out of the body before cutting around 85-90% of the prey's body and digesting the dead body in an acidic stomach inside their strong stems, that later gets absorbed by their connected Roots.
Now here's where the mass Fertilization comes in. The left over off the prey's body is carefully buried, into the Root system. Because of which the soil hungry Poppy families move across are heavily fertilized. Helping the ecosystems they reside in.
This reflex is thought to have evolved from the prehistoric times of massive bugs, with zero need to be removed, so it stayed until this Very day. Helping the species with hibernation.
Genetics:
Genetics are Very, very defined within Hungry poppies. From making members have more or less sensory organs, all the way to the number and shape of petals, And many other things depending on the parents and previous generations.
It's even more prominent in Males, as the circular chainsaw appendage can be bigger or smaller, depending on certain genetics.
Hibernation:
Before even winter hits by 2 months, the hunting activity of Hungry poppies seem to rise, and movement seem to slow, and they fertilize the ground with 10% additional organic materials then usual.
When winter is 15 days away, adult members get the babpies close by before encasing themselves and the whatever number of children they can get in a short, hard, thick, and wide tree like bark, with 3 to 6 leafs on the top for simple photosynthesis.
When winter starts, every family of Hungry poppies are just a small collection of short and wide trees, halfway covered with snow. And all the children that didn't make it into a tree bark either got hunted by predators, or died because of the lack of nutrition.
ā The End ā
I believe this us everything about Hungry poppies you'd need to know off! If i missed anything I won't rewrite anything else.
The Void is home to many creatures which cover an even greater variety of body plans and aesthetics. A large number of creatures which form in or come to this place of darkness between worlds adopt a measure of that darkness into themselves. The shadowcatch rabbit with its coat of hazy, indistinct black fur which mimics the shadows it dives into. Afterthoughts, which are composed of material resembling starlit skies and points of light are incredibly difficult to spot in the dark alleys of population centers. The even more rare creatures which stalk the endless shifting stretches of wild void, which none have catalogued. Some sapient life even, if the shifting shades of the E'dahs are taken into account, bear a measure of inky black void in their amorphous shapes.
Many species adapt to use the dark voidscape to their advantage, though the Weave above does provide some semblance of constant illumination there are many many dark places for the enterprising creature. Some few additionally adapt to hunt such hidden creatures, the Grasping Fear of the Wrathroot senses its prey via widely spanning mycelial roots and shiverfin darters manipulate time to hunt their hidden prey by knowing where they *will* be. None is quite so effective as the shiftsnitch hawk at hunting the wide open stretches of ink dark void.
Its feathers are typically a dusky brown with ruddy red tips, the tail feathers taking on even redder colour like dried rust. Across its mantle is a sparkling pattern of white and yellow dots, each pattern unique to the individual. Its beak is sharp and hooked like a typical hawk though the maxilla is slightly larger than average allowing for greater ability to pierce the flesh. Beyond that, its sharp talons and grey tinged skin, the eyes are of notable import. Wide-pupiled and vibrant they shift with an aurora of colour in the iris, a constant slow spin creating an entrancing visual when seen up close. These eyes are adapted to tracking any and all forms of prey by allowing them to attune to different forms of light, from infrared to ultraviolet they can track by stimuli outside of the usual spectrum. It is also theorized that they have this capacity to track due to natural magicks which are initiated by organically grown runes in the structure of the eyes themselves. They are formidable predators and deserving of much more study.

The marsh is dead silent. No crickets. No frogs. Just a massive, jagged shadow breaching the reeds. It has a sail on its back that looks like a row of broken fence posts, and it's breathing in deep, rattling vibrations that make the mud under my boots shake. I thought it was just the river current, but the water is moving backwards toward me. Please stay away from the banks. I think it heard me typing. It's stepping onto the tree
So I was doing some art studies and remembered something interesting! For as horrifying as their bodies and movement are to many people, itās really difficult to make a spider face look menacing. Their mandibles are freaky, sure, but their eyes are always very cute and round and shiny.
(These are all real spiders btw, that guy in the bottom right is a clown spider, look him up heās crazy cool and almost certainly the inspiration for pennywise).
Meanwhile, butterflies are considered an āacceptableā bug to many. Their pretty wing patterns and small legs and faces make them appealing to many people who hate most other bugs. The thing is, when you get a closeup of their teeny tiny faces, itās actually just as inhuman and creepy as most other insects.
(Fun fact, I actually am an exception to the ābutterflies are an acceptable bugā rule. Iāll let a little spider or harmless black ants crawl on me all day long but butterfliesā erratic flight patterns and their habits of swarming water sources just freak me out).
Anyway, I decided to take the least appealing traits of both these critters, along with some deep sea creature traits for flavor and throw them together into a beautiful abomination :) :) :)
Behold my baby! Deep sea creature traits include a mollusk beak in the same place mollusks have them, a long nose with fangs inspired by daggertooth fish and sea slug eye stalks and fronds. Give me suggestions on what to call my lovely little beast in the notes!
drawing of an ambler i did for a majors assignment!! pretty happy w how it turned out ngl
species stuff under tha cut
transcript bc my handwriting is shit:
ambler
7'-8' tall
giant, slow-moving photovores with a characteristic divot that collects rainwater and serves as a small mobile pond for other creatures. harming an ambler is considered taboo in the Glade. mostly found in moss grotto and the outer woods.
some other stuff i didnt write down there:
- amblers dont rest often but when they do its for a period of months, half embedded in the ground in a state kind of like torpor
- when sleeping theyre often mistaken for just another part of the landscape
- over time an ambler's pond develops its own miniature ecosystem
- young amblers who havent developed their ecosystem yet are called birdbaths, since theyre often birdbath sized and dont have other plantlife and whatnot on them
- ambler's "fur" is mosslike and is a good host of climbing plants like ivy, and some creeping plants like phlox
- marsh plants often take up residence in/around amblers' ponds
