Daerion Variant: Hvitsar
Ah yes. Now I understand my obsession with Daerion.
Hvitsar and Daerion both have their own flavors that make them distinctly their own thing but the similarities are there.
Ivar was madly insane, believed himself to be a God, always looking for a fight, would've been insulted by any slight towards him or Viking itself, had a terrible relationship with his younger brother Sigurd (who had no problem talking smack about Ivar but Ivar ended up killing him for it), manipulative as hell, and took advantage of his codependent relationship with his older brother Hvitserk. It is assumed that Ivar incapable of holding feelings for others but in his narcissistic way, Ivar did love Hvitserk.
Hvitserk unlike Daeron, has done his fair share of horrid crimes like Ivar. However, ever since youth, Hvitserk dealt with some sort of dissociative disorder where he seemed to take on / be influenced by his society + whichever brother he could cling onto (Ubbe early on, ditched Ubbe for Ivar), taking on their traits. Hvitserk was a lost soul just passively existing, drinking and taking drugs constantly, plagued by vision (sometimes, either falsely induced or seer induced), detached from himself, and sickly appearance, with a codependent relationship to Ivar. Hvitserk wished to kill Ivar multiple times, saw him as a monster, yet recalled when they were boys, a simpler time, the humanity in Ivar, and could not fully despise Ivar despite everything Ivar had done to their family.
Perhaps I'm promoting Hvitsar but these two ships will for sure stick with me till the end of time. Daerion and Hvitsar are my kind of (completely fucked up) ship dynamic in fiction even if Daerion didn't share screentime nor will get as much depth as Hvitsar. However, that's what we, the fandom, are for.
