Our Demons
Pairing: Hvitserk x fem!Reader.
Genre: Drama, romance, soft, fluff.
Summary: You and your husband are facing your demons.
Warnings: Mentions of jealousy and abandonment issues and strong language (that's all I think).
The air was whispering a sick song around the cold, atmosphere of the winter. The land was covered in snow, each night was snowing too much.
Winters were always rough in Norway. And most men were displeased to be home due to those severe circumstances. The could already imagine and crave the warmth of the spring. The air which led the ships away for raiding. The was, the blood, the conquests. And the women.
Though, the women of the Vikings weren't like the ones they met on their raidings. You surely weren't one of those Hvitserk could ever meet.
You weren't a thrall. You weren't one to fall on his feet after a quick glance and a playful smirk. You weren't even one to be charmed by his well-practised and easy pick-up lines. That before you had become his wife.
A pretty jealous wife to be fair. To your defence, his reputation wasn't helping you much, though, he was smitten and you could tell.
Hvitserk didn't seem to mind much of your possessive and jealous feelings, instead, he even enjoyed when you were trying to contain your true feelings and played to be understand and definitely not jealous when some other woman was trying to flirt with him.
"Jealous cat." Hvitserk muttered playfully in you ear as he hugged you tightly from behind. His chest was pressing your back so right, like you were supposed to be a missing piece of his own skin and vice versa.
"I'm not..." You spoke as you tilted your head slightly to look at him. He left a breathy giggle.
"As you should." He played along as he pushed gently your head on the side, on your right shoulder and places a little kiss on the left side of your neck.
Hvitserk sighed and turned you around, looking your in the eyes. His hands moved on your shoulders to make understand how serious he was about you.
"There's nobody else. Nobody." He clarified in a very serious tone, he would rarely use. "It's only you, since the day we met and I'm planning to remind you this everyday. All the time if I have to, but you want you to believe me."
After he stopped speaking, he leaned his forehead close, slightly leaning to met yours. Your eyes were already captivated by his gaze. His green eyes were able to do all the talking alone right now.
"Tell me you do believe me." Hvetserk's tone was weaker now, not because of any other reason than the tense and seriousness of the moment they were sharing.
This wasn't supposed to be a moment you were teasing and bickering. This was a serious moment where he was pouring his heart open over your feet, making you understand and trust that you were the only one in his heart and arms, on his mind and bed.
"Hvitserk... is not that I don't believe you..." Your voice was soft, almost lost even because of the way his eyes were holding yours in their green, magnetic depth.
You sighed softly.
"Yeah, it's not that, but it is my past, isn't it, sweetheart?"
His hands moved on your cheeks, cupping your face in the most tender way.
"I know what I've done and I know exactly why you're scared. I'm not saying I'm another man. I'm merely saying that I'm your man. And that's because of my past. Because I've realised that you and your love for me, your devotion, your car, you are all I ever wanted. All I was ever seeking. You're my home. You're the reason I pray to Gods anymore. The reason I even breathe." Hvitserk was speaking in a slightly louder tone than before, but still somewhat soft, that made sure of the truth and validation of his word.
This, along with the gentle movement of his thumbs caressing rhythmically the tender skin of your cheeks.
You didn't know what to say, what to answer in his magnificent and beautiful words. You felt like an idiot after all these countless jealous scenes you had caused over the time.
You wanted to tell him that you couldn't help him, that your jealousy and frustration was taking over, just because of your own insecurities.
"I-I don't mean to question you that much all the time... I know you care for me as much as I do for you. I know you love me... but then... when I see a woman looking at you like that and smiling and all... I lose it." You tried to explain, breaking the strong, meaningful eye contact you kept the whole time.
However, when you did let your eyes move elsewhere, he used his hands on your cheeks to turn your face to keep the contact intact. He wasn't going to make this moment any less important and strong than it was.
"Don't worry, sweetheart, we all have our demons. You know mine as well as I know yours. And I have to help you, like you help me." His words were meant to be encouraging and they were, as you nodded and left a small smile for on your lips.
"That's my girl." Hvitserk spoke softly and pressed a passionate but short-lasted kiss on your lips. One that surely left you wanting more of those kisses, and surely those more wouldn't last that short.
When that amazing kiss ended, so shortly, his forehead leaned on hers once more. Your lips had stayed half-opened, but his gaze weren't there, his green eyes were fixed on your own eyes.
"You seem so restless, but you're so calm and understanding to me." You spoke softly and a small smile was stuck on your lips now.
His face mirrored yours, but his smile was a full one, a real one.
"That's because it's you. Your comfort and happiness is my priority. Sometimes I have to be the commander around here. Because, let's be honest, mostly that position belongs to you." And there he was back lightening the atmosphere by teasing you in his usual playful manner.
"I'm not a commander." You fought back with a laugh on your tone.
"I wouldn't bet on that, darling. You're the one having this household running, you have me settled, me and our little one." Hvitserk smiled as he looked at his baby daughter sleeping on her tiny bed.
His eyes returned to you. "How could I ever disgrace a gift like that? You're a gift from Frigg to a lost cause and you, the best gift, gave me her..." Hvitserk spoke those words like they were a secret or a prayer and you were the only one who should know.
"I should be the one afraid that will lose you..." There he was his own demons.
Hvitserk always feared that he'd be alone. That you'd leave him and take everything beautiful with you. He always thought he was a failure, a disgrace for everyone.
"Hey... no..." You spoke softly and placed a hand on his cheek, mimicking his way of holding you. "Does my jealousy look like enough to lead me away? Because I could never... not when you reassure me like that every time with words and acts... and all that hugging and kissing." You were the one to reassure him this time of how much he meant to you.
"We're both do lost on each other..." He teased and connected her lips to his.
It wasn't a hungry and devouring kiss. Nothing like that. That was a passionate and tender kiss, but also strong and meaningful. It could be called devouring but not in the casual meaning of the word. It was a kiss that was reflective of all the emotions you felt for each other, and of all of the fears of losing each other you both held. It felt redemptive and it was.
It was a way to ensure that both of you weren't planning on destroying the beautiful bond you shared, that was growing strong after every moment like this. Every moment you or Hvitserk had to face your demons and insecurities.
