The whole mindset of a meme is to make the other person laugh. But do we really think these memes are sending a positive message? Why is it that our society accepts such comments to be taken in, and then reformed to become a world wide joke?
Ever since the invention of phones, and social media. Memes have also developed to be a huge interest to everyone. We laugh because memes bond us together. When we are with friends and family, one way we tend to bond together is by a good old joke/meme. It connects us socially, and It keeps us laughing and laughing, until we build our whole conversation just about Memes and jokes! If we had an conversation without memes, It would get boring and It would make a boring influence on yourself. And no one would really want to talk to you.
The sad part about all of this is that most of the memes we are laughing about, are racist, mean, and it has a negative effect to certain type of people, country, or religion. Many ways I can prove this point is when 9/11 occurred. Obviously that was the worst day America had ever faced. It was very sad as well. So many people died, and it was so devastating. No one had ever thought that there would have been such a massive attack on home soil. Everyone was left shocked and speechless. And shortly after, all over social media was just memes. And most of these memes were regarding people who were Muslim. The whole social media at the time was just people throwing negative comments to people who are Muslim. Such words as “Terrorist”, “Bin Laden” and other words were used to offend people. And up till now these memes about 9/11 are still going around. And people still think it is funny to make a joke out of it.
Another huge incident regarding memes which happened very recently was about World War 3. After tensions between the US and Iran go up. Memes about World War 3 started to appear over social media. The message clearly on social media was that everyone wanted World War 3 to happen. It was so odd. People were making jokes about it, and wanted Iran and USA to go to war. Why would people want another war to happen. We have already experienced many wars including the Korean War, WW1, WW2, Pakistan-India war. Where millions of people were dying, and were left without food. The governments became so broke that countries were facing so much problems. issues.https://globalnews.ca/news/6387367/world-war-iii-draft/ An article describing memes on world war 3 by Global News Just shows the type of mindset people have on social media. Think again? Are all memes really that funny?
