Often I’m asked to assist a client in a moment of transition - moving to a new place, downsizing, settling an estate, insuring a new addition to a collection. I’m happiest when I can accompany the client from beginning to end, from problem to resolution. This process usually starts with a valuation of the items in a collection and then the client can use that information to make decisions about which pieces to keep and which pieces to donate/sell/give away. For Curated, transitioning to a home-based business meant that I had the flexibility to offer more of these holistic services for my clients, but it also meant that I no longer had a storefront to resell clients' pieces. I was able to take individual items and offer them for sale on my Etsy shop, but for larger collections that had to move fast, we started partnering with local auction houses. This allowed clients to sell not only their art and antiques, but their furniture, extra dishes, tools, and exercise equipment too. While selling isn’t the best option for every collection, adding auction services has allowed many of our clients go from “Help! I have too much stuff!” to a state of relief that their treasured items are going to loving new homes. Pretty neat!
