ok permit me this became like a million year long tangent about an only semi-related thought but i think part of what annoys me so much about it is that it's literally just kneejerk contrarian nonsense because this website used to be mostly populated by teenagers who were reasonably wigged out by, like, ddlg and billdip and whatnot (iirc one of the first Anti-Ship Blogs™️ was about billdip).
like ~anti-ship blogs~ and ~anti-kink blogs~ were HUGE on this website, or at least the corner of it i frequented, in like. 2015-18 or so. ddlg was the thing everyone made fun of and people were calling themselves kinkshamers and making memes about healthbyholly and ohjoysextoy and reylo shippers and shit, and i'll be so real, yeah it was mostly teenager 'sex is gross is funny' nonsense, but i miss that compared to current-era tumblr where every other week some nonsense happens with a zine or a ship week or something and people can circlejerk about how dark and mature they are compared to people who are, at worst, slightly annoying about slightly stupid rules in their own events, and then for the next week a bunch of posts about incest smutfics are put on my dash by well-meaning people who don't know what op means by their Dark Fiction about Nuanced Topics that Censorship Hates!
am i just a prude? yes. i'm ace+sex-repulsed so of course i just roll my eyes at posts about Cranking Your Hog #SubversiveQueerDarkFiction Style when the Subversive Dark Fiction in question is shit you can find on the front page of pornhub. and yes old tumblr (blegh 2015 is old...???) had its issues too - generally a lot of people giving eachother moral scrupulosity problems with callout culture and whatnot - but at least it was more entertaining back then (imo) and also... more conscious of people's triggers and discomforts, which is why those blogs and whatnot existed. now everything even vaguely making fun of or criticizing kink or porn has to be sugarcoated with UwU You're So Valid-isms lest the Don't Like Don't Read crowd gets their panties in a twist about their intentionally inflammatory edgy work god forbid actually offending someone. now memes about the hilarious concept of someone being uncomfortable with age gaps get run into the ground for months, because obviously the only people who would ever dislike this concept are... conservatives? or uh... puritans? or something???
like, when i call myself an ~anti~ - i think it's a silly term because there's not like... an ~anti community~ like there may have been back then and also anti/proship are words nobody can actually agree on definitions for - i always have to add "ohh im against harassment though" which. Yes i am. obviously. i think it's morally wrong and also just feeds peoples' persecution complexes and is pointless and sad for everyone involved. largely don't waste brain power on things that upset you. I realize that's hypocritical coming from someone several paragraphs into this rant but just let me at it.
however people will take "harassment" to mean anything. i have seen MONTHS of proshippers' persecution complexes about evil anti harassment fueled by one(1) passive-aggressive ask or a post on someone's own blog about not liking a trope or whatever. look at the environments on fanfiction subreddits, i got a post of mine locked that was asking people for ships they "just don't get". not ships that are evil or morally bankrupt or the people who ship them need to die in a fire. Ones they just don't get. this wasn't some psyop or excuse to talk about how evil people who ship reimob or whatever are i literally just wanted to see people's pointless opinions and small talk about random inoffensive ships because it sounded fun to hear about. Like how thin is your skin that you can't handle someone with a potentially negative opinion on what you like breathing in your direction especially when you're the people always on about your challenging and dubious topics??? it's like the left-leaning version of people who are on about free speech until someone disagrees with them good god
