For something to be genuine, it shouldn’t just come from the surface, but from within as well.

God desires, God wants, a personal and loving relationship with his creation. He doesn’t desire to be distant, but close and personal to each and every one of us.

The question is, is that what we want with God?

God’s love for us comes directly from his heart, and he wants our love for him to come from ours.

No spouse wants their betrothed to claim their love on the outside, and yet sideline them to make room for their hobbies, addictions, and other things that really have their heart.

So why do we do the same for God?

God doesn’t want our rituals, he wants our love. He wants to be our everything, our other half.

He wants us to be madly in love with him as he is with us. He wants to us to hold him dearly to our hearts, and to have everything we do to be done with him on our mind. He wants to be the first thing we think of in the morning, and the last thing we think of before we go to bed. He wants to be our source of joy, comfort, and complete and utter trust. He wants to be our rock, our strong hold on the day of trouble. He just wants to love us .

So why don’t we let him?

It’s not God who turns his back on us, it’s us who turn our backs on him.

It’s God who constantly shouts, “Here I am”, to a world that refuses to know him. It’s God who consistently blesses us when all we do is reject him.

It’s God who constantly holds his hands out towards us, now it’s up to us to hold our hands out towards him.

I get really irked when people weirdly celebrate that our Rook is more skilled than Solas, somehow more capable than Solas because they got out of the fade prison while he couldn’t. Well, DUH. Of course we CAN get out, we did *nothing* that comes remotely close to all of the mistakes and messed up things he did in the past. Nothing. The only thing I can think of is choosing one city over another. The companions death don’t even come close because they did not happen by our hand. Rooks’s regret is surface level and not even truly regret. It might be guilt, it might be a sense of failure, loss, confusion, anger. But the deep regret that he lives with? No.

Not only that there is the strength of friendship that also seems to pull Rook forward to escape the prison. Solas at this point has nobody.

So I guess, while others hate Solas even more because he’s a loser who can’t get out, I think this should be the moment to see the deep tragedy of his character. A man who truly has lost any ability to forgive himself. And so he resorts to decisions that keep driving him further into the pits of hell.
