Have you every pureed pot roast soup? You probably shouldnât if you havenât yet. It is....gross. Silver lining: when I am old (and thin) and toothless, Iâll know what to expect. Â
Today though, is clear liquids day. Clear liquids until Tuesday!Â
I had a Friendsgiving with our D&D group last night. I was actually kind of worried and a tad depressed before we went. I knew there would be lots of yummy stuff. Dr. Bariatric was right when he said it would be harder around the holidays. Not really because of all the eating temptations, for me anyway. Seriously, thereâs something about seeing your food pureed into one single form and weird color that tempers your desire for all the things. Try to imagine finger painting and mixing all of your colors into one giant paint mound. Keep that color in your mind, and then imagine your food in finger paint form. There you go. Let us all have a moment of silence for our dearly departed appetite.Â
My issue was more about the people pleasing aspect of food. Itâs easy to forget about it when youâre at home in your own little bariatric bubble. Food is the universal expression of love. In the South especially, food is a bite into someoneâs soul. Be it scrambled eggs or great-grandmas special pie recipe-if you donât eat it, youâre rejecting the love. Food has itâs a unique way of connecting people. It is also a universal cure for social anxiety. Donât know what to say? Eat a lil smokie. Want to end the conversation? Stuff a cake in your face.  What happens when you take that security blanket away?Â
So we get there, and all the foods are waiting. Incredibly,. I didnât eat all the foods. As a hostess myself, I tend to get annoyed with picky eaters. However, Iâve never been more thankful to see plain yams sitting on the stove in all their bland glory. Guess what I had. Yams and strawberries. Mashed and silky. The beauty is that no one was offended, no one gave me crap, and everyone was pretty supportive. Yay friends!Â
I made it the full night without touching anything. I will admit I did have a few small sips of soda, but it was too sweet. WHO AM I?Â
