Content warning for musclebutt, I guess. More Angeal love, musing on a 'what if the Planet vomited him up to contend with the fact that Genesis is afoot post-DOC' scenario.
Echoes of his final wolf-copy amid the scars of wings and mortality.
Tips on How to Negotiate
Currently I am attending FENS virtual Forum and on Sunday I listened to a panel discussion: How to negotiate to get what you need. I was late so I missed a bit of the beginning but I have gathered a few tips that might be of help. In parentheses you find the name of the scientist giving the (following) tips. Keep in mind that these tips are especially directed toward scientists, PhD-students, Post-docs etc. . But I believe they can be helpful to anyone. Enjoy. And if you wanna add something, feel free.
Donât give up too fast. (Johannes Gräff)
You can negotiate, you deserve to do it. (Laura Andreae)
Desperation is good for negotiation and you can negotiate even for the smallest things
For instance, you need materials for the lab but donât have money, you could negotiate for it with your employer
Know what you are looking for. (Marian Joels)Â
What are you looking for in that new job/company/university/employer?
What exactly is it that you want, what are  you  negotiating for?
Be a pleasant negotiator
Be well prepared
Put the person/company/employer you are negotiating with into the advisor position and not the enemy position
Marian talked about one of their sponsors and how they put them in an advisor position which is very smart, I think. I sometimes do it with my supervisor (if it fits) and it works.
Don't get emotional. Avoid it. Be rational.
Honesty is important and being authentic.
share the impact with the person you are negotiating with. Not immediately but maybe 3 months later, if needed.
Be careful with going to the next level (the person a level higher from your  supervisor in the hierarchy. He/she might say that you should go back to your supervisor and nothing has changed)
In case you are switching from one university to another university, you need to know that the rules are different for each university (Menno P. Witter)
learn what the rules of your new employer is.
In case there is discrimination: Is this really the place you want to work at?
Negotiating for a position: make a list of everything you do daily (you touch gloves etc.) and you need to know whether this university pays for it.
Know what you want and use negotiation to explore your future environment
Forget about previous experiences. Let go of the emotion and don't talk about your ex-supervisor to the new employer. Â (Aparna Suvrathan)
Again be prepared.
be honest if you are trying to apply to two positions. The person/employer wants you to have the position, be confident and honest. (I think this was Menno P. Witter)
Good morning everyone! I want to thank you all for the love in likes and reblogs yesterday during this blogâs debut! Welcome to all my new followers. Please message any time--whether you need a little extra support or just to say hi. :) What is everyone working on today?
Looked at post-phd job ads to try and motivate myself to finish the thesis Iâm bored of...
...but itâs demotivating me more because HOW can anyone be qualified for these things?
E.g. in addition to a PhD and neuroimaging experience, they also want
Programming skills
Publications
Proficiency in a specific foreign language
Grade 6 music theory
Knowledge in THREE psychology-related specialisations
Experience with a very specific range of research techniques
Experience with a specific learning difficulty assessment
Ability to do regular international trips
Are these written with a specific person in mind or are almost-PhD-grads generally that competent in that many things?

Cloud felt something strange pricking at the back of his neck, as he walked through Edge as he sometimes did. It was hard to keep himself together, always. Sometimes his memories were jumbled, nightmares to sharp.
So he walked. It was usually calming, really. Except heâd felt this sense of foreboding of...of something, all day.
As he turned the corner, he blinked, saw the shock of silver hair, and tensed, stopping.
âYou,â he said, his tone somewhere between accusing and surprised. Heâd never expected to see the remnant again.

Genesis hadnât been aware of the passage of time within his sleep. He had known that time had passed of course, but until he ascended to the surface he hadnât known for much time or the status of the world.
Once he had emerged from the underground caverns of his once home, he had decided to make his way to Midgar. As much as he would like to avoid the sprawling city, it was the largest city in Gaia and a good place to start searching.
He had frozen at the sight that greeted him approaching the city, almost plunging from the sky in his shock.
Where the city once stood, floating proudly above the ground, now stood only ruins. Misshapen piles of rubble and broken buildings all that was left of Shinraâs glory.
There was the beginnings of a civilisation close to the site of ruin, but Genesis decided to avoid it for a moment. At least until he knew if he would be attacked on sight or not.
"You've done well."
