Ah yes, postpartum eating the ultimate cosmic joke as everyone tells you, “Eat well! Nourish yourself! You just made a human!” And you think, “Sure, how hard can it be?”
Fast forward to reality: you’ve just birthed a tiny dictator, your body is demanding calories like it’s auditioning for Gluttony: The Sequel, and your hormones are throwing a rave you didn’t RSVP to. Enter gestational diabetes history… Because apparently your metabolism likes drama.
You sit down with a perfectly portioned plate of salmon, quinoa and optimism - and poof - 10 minutes later you’ve inhaled the cookies, icecream and chocolate. Ravenous doesn’t even cover it. You are a postpartum eating machine with zero chill.
And yet…here’s the cruel magic: every bite of actual nutritious food does help. Energy levels, milk supply, mood - tou’re basically a walking, hormone-fueled science experiment proving that spinach does matter… Even if you occasionally follow it up with a tub of ice cream because y'know, survival.
Bottom line: Eating well postpartum is like trying to floss a hippo. You know it’s good for you. It’s impossible. And somehow, somehow, it works anyway. Failing that, post natal vitamins are always my go to!
• Energy & mood: B vitamins and iron help you survive the zombie-parent phase.
• Healing & hair: Vitamin C, zinc, and biotin support stitches, nails, and hair.
• Breastfeeding bonus: Omega-3s, iodine, and vitamin D sneak into your milk for baby.
Tips: Take them with breakfast or a snack so you don’t forget - or get nauseous. Don’t stress if you miss a day; real food still counts.
Truth: They won’t make you sleep through the night but they’ll quietly keep you from falling apart while you try 🖤
