We all know Malcolm is the crown prince of whump, which while not ideal, (the man has to take care of himself better), at least can be purged/expressed in relatively safe ways (I’m saying Dani has shown how great she is at both that purge and the aftercare *ahem*).  The most worrisome thing is the fact that he clearly gains some charge of excitement from inflicting violence on others.  Hello, hand-chopping. But (and this is key) he has guilt about it.  His nightmares tend to center on fighting that urge off, which is largely where I believe his heavy masochistic streak comes from. The need to be punished for it. So, it’s clear his father saw signs of this perhaps when he was a boy and thought he saw himself in him.  ...But the guilt, the concern for others to the point where he literally beats himself up in his dreams. Even as a grown man he is properly seeking treatment from a therapist and taking meds. This particular therapist having been his childhood one definitely says a lot about his comfort level with letting people in. It makes sense that his profession and expertise is analyzing others. It’s an effective shield for himself.  And kudos to Malcolm he hides nothing and is open to anything regarding treatment. So, IMO, he does technically have the capacity to be a killer, but for his conscience, which his father and his father’s murder budd(ies?) don’t have. If he was a killer, then he wouldn’t be having night terrors, nor be so affected by his trauma in so many ways. As for Eve?  I think her knowing the girl in the box is too easy.  Though perhaps that’s her theory or even thinking that this close lost person was another victim of Martin’s and she’s wrong.
