Headcanons! Okay! Setsuna actually seems really nice! I’ll write for her! Hope you don’t mind, a bit short!

Frankenstein Monster! Tokage Setsuna

Setsuna is confident that she understands vampires but she is so amazed by every new ability you use. She just hides it in favour to still seem like the acknowledge monster of her image

Setsuna clutches your hand just to snuggle it, you have more warmth then her and she simply thrives off. She may have more life but you feel like the sunshine compared to her and she hates being cold

Setsuna’s own limbs run off, out of her control, at times so you help her track them down. Her eyes glow with a lovestruck beam each time you take charge and point out where her hand has ran off to. She can’t believe you’re so kind to her and heart beats faster

Setsuna is protective in the sense of the sunlight. She can handle it, you can’t so the second she sees you in the sun, she is rushing to cover you. She loves you too much to let you disappear and she goes off at whoever pushed you in. It seems like a sisterly friendship to you but it’s genuine love on her side

Setsuna likes eating with you and has been eating with only you lately. You’re friendly and you don’t judge her for her frankenmonster traits. In-fact, you welcome with her big arms and she swears she’ll faint with how heavily blushing she is at your affection

Setsuna may or may not use her detachable limbs to get things for you to try impress you. You can’t find your bag? She’ll drop her hand and just watch as it delivers your bag to you. No matter what, she’ll find it so you praise her and express gratitude, and hopefully for her, fall in love with her

Setsuna is a chatty one and a bit possessive. She won’t let you feel lonely or unheard as she’ll happily talk to you for as long as you want. She loves the sound of your voice and the feel of your skin against hers

Setsuna, with pure bliss, helps you with your schoolwork as she definitely knows most subjects like the back of her hand. Her sweet little vampire queen won’t be struggling on her watch, she’ll make it her mission to tutor you until you understand everything you didn’t understand before

Setsuna likes setting up sleepovers for you and her on the weekends. Where you can do all kinds of girly things together and she can try sneak a kiss or two onto your cheek but fails. It’s okay, she has plenty of tricks to help her win you over

Of course, Miki isn’t really helping things. One trend you tend to see is that after her first attempt, she doesn’t really ask Setsuna about potential topics. She doesn’t ask about her interests aside from dancing, doesn’t ask about if she has anything she wants to talk about, doesn’t really try to fish for potential topics that Setsuna might actively be interested in. She just jumps to either trying to talk about things she herself is interested in, or things she assumes that girls would be (Which also coincidentally aligns with her interests), kind of forgetting that Setsuna is in a rather different position than most girls.

And of course, it kind of fails, because fashion isn’t something that Setsuna is particularly interested in. Now, Miki gives it one more try and asks about school and gets a similar-level response; like, part of this is definitely Setsuna kind of working out an identity for herself and really being able to properly have these sorts of dialogues. This isn’t all on Miki here. But I think that part of it is. 

First, it was touched on earlier, but it’s nice to know that Setsuna is getting closer with Buki too; complete dependence on Love for friendship wouldn’t be good for her. 

As to the question, though, their approaches would probably be opposites, but in a positive way. Love is somebody that would dive headfirst and kind of get Setsuna to experience things as much as she can, whereas Buki is more inclined to let Setsuna more speak her own mind and have more of the floor, though willing to jump in when need be. 

Miki is kind of caught in the middle of that spectrum. She’s somebody that doesn’t necessarily have the raw charisma (or at least chemistry) that Love does with Setsuna, but also isn’t necessarily being as deferential as Buki might be and letting her communicate at her own pace; note that Setsuna could just want some time to relax on the train right now, and her short answers are trying to signal that. 

Like, I love the continuity nod.

Like, there’s a reason why so much emphasis is put on that first line. When, say, Westar and Soular call her Eas, there is little really meant by that; it’s just what they’re used to calling her and they see no real reason to call her anything else. It’s who she really is. 

When Northa calls her Eas, though, it’s meant similarly, but as a painful sentiment that that is all she will ever be; that she can never do better, that she is the reason that everything is the way it is and there is absolutely no way to change that, or that she can be forgiven for that. The whole idea of her being “Setsuna” isn’t just wrong, but absolutely pointless, because this person named “Setsuna is somebody different, capable of redemption, and Northa is trying to emphasize that she simply isn’t worth that, nor is she capable of receiving it. Everything is all her fault, and that is something that will stick with her forever, there is no use trying to run from it. 

This is actually a really cruel but really effective way to use Setsuna’s own grief to continually chip away at her own sense of self. Her constant pangs of guilt and self-loathing for everything that she’s done. ones she certainly has, easily put her in a position where it can be easy to be convinced that she doesn’t deserve to be Setsuna or Cure Passion; that basically all she deserves to be is Eas because her crimes can’t be forgiven and for her redemption is absolutely impossible. 

Like, in some senses Setsuna already implicitly said this earlier in the episode, it was just kind of terrible timing and so got misconstrued. But this time she’s saying it consciously with full understanding of the meaning behind her words, so it definitely holds a bit more dramatic weight. 

And it’s something that Setsuna kind of had to struggle out too, because this isn’t really something she’s used to. This kind of pseudo-paternal love isn’t really something she got in Labyrinth, because she at most had something closer to Surrogate parents; honestly I imagine growing up in Labyrinth wasn’t that different from growing up in a Horde militia in the new Shera, except Labyrinth had the resources of a State behind it. The whole idea of a paternal figure would probably have been laughable to Eas, somebody that didn’t really understand why having somebody that actually cared about them in that sense was important. 

Though in my slightly tired stream of consciousness I guess i’ll correct myself, Moebius likely was a father figure of sorts, but it wasn’t the kind that gave love, it was the kind that demanded love while giving very little back; a very unhealthy obsessive relationship; Setsuna had never really got experience the relationship as a two-way street before, where she actually received the sort of affection and respect that she gave by somebody that saw her as worthy of it.
