To all TERFs and members of the "LG without BTQ+" (often mislabelled as "LGB without TQ+"), this is your friendly reminder, during Pride Month, that the B doesn't stand with you.
It is estimated that Bisexual/Pansexual/Omnisexual/Polysexual folks make up for 56% of the LGBTQ+ population.
And guess what? Trans and fellow queer people typically aren't the ones telling bisexuals (and other non-monosexual identities) that:
- they are only experimenting with their sexuality until they finally make their choice to be gay or straight,
- they are greedy, because they can't pick a gender and stick to it,
- they are more likely to cheat than monosexuals,
- they are either straight or homosexual, based on the gender of their partner(s),
- they have to leave their straight partner(s) at the door to enter queer spaces where gays and lesbians can attend as couples (yes, because bisexuals can't possibly be trusted to make sure that their straight partner isn't homophobic before entering those spaces); because their own ability to love across all genders and sexualities, including cishet people, is something they should be ashamed of, and/or that threatens the safety of those spaces,
- their "straight-passing privilege" makes them inelligible for grants and fundings benefitting the members of the LGBTQ+,
Thankfully, the LGBTQ+ is filled with wonderful LGs that love and support the BTQ+ part of the community.
Those are very notoriously trans and queer inclusive, and/or trans themselves.
So, if you want to split up (that's really up to you, we're not trying to kick anyone out, but we won't hold you against your will, either), the two groups can't be called the "LGB without the TQ+" vs the "LGBTQ+".
Because there is no B without TQ+. Thanks for the offer to join your little trans and queerphobic gang, but no thanks!
Instead, I would humbly suggest to go with something like the "TELG" (trans exclusive lesbians and gays) vs the "LGBTQ+".
The good news, is that you could even boost your numbers by calling yourselves the "TEM" (trans exclusive monosexuals). That way, it would include transphobic straight people as well. Given how hard you are working to show you're just like them in order to escape oppression and gain their approval, it could work!
After all, you're already hating on the same people, and they always delight in saying things like "my friend is gay, and even the gays are sick and tired of trans people ruining it for the rest of the community by threatening the rights that they worked so hard to obtain!"
Because, if you sincerely believe, for a second, that a group of people that TEMs have been happy to constantly ignore and invalidate will agree to be seen as "part of the LGB club" only when its convenient to use them and their numbers to justify the oppression of the most vulnerable members of our LGBTQ+ community, you are deeply delusional.
Leave the B out of your separatist bullshit!
As a pansexual ambiamorous woman on the aromantic and asexual spectrum - part of that 56% queer majority - I'll continue to work with my siblings of the LGBTQ+ towards the safeguarding of all of our rights, not just those of monosexual cisgender monoamorous identities, thank you very much!
