So I got one for my shampoo I’ve had great luck with. Little background on this one: I have pretty thick, oily hair. And I will say that I wasn’t able to switch to this homemade wash until I chopped almost all of it off because with my job having me around people a lot, I couldn’t really do the usual adjustment time it takes (there’s usually about two weeks where your hair just gets…gross…. as it adjusts).BUT, since using this, I’ve been washing my hair every other day with it and haven’t needed to use conditioner. The oils in it haven’t weighed down my hair, and it doesn’t get super greasy as quickly, and has been hella soft and easier to style!This recipe also has a lot of variation and is super customizable. Do note that I’ve seen it mentioned that castile recipes are NOT GOOD for color treated hair, since the colored hair needs a more acidicCastile Soap ShampooBASIC VERSION- 1 to 1 ratio mix of castile soap and purified water. This can be adjusted for more or less soap in there (I use tea tree castile soap for extra scalp issues)- A couple teaspoons of a good hair oil. I use a few drops of argan oil, since it’s a pretty lightweight oil that doesn’t freak my hair out too much. BUT argan oil can be pricey, so other great options are extra virgin olive oil or coconut oil. I know the word “oil” is scary for us with greasy hair, but it has done some hella wonders for softness after I added this in. Jojoba oil, sweet almond oil (if you dont have a nut allergy!) and avocado oil are also good.- A couple drops of rosemary/lavender essential oil. Rosemary has the bonus of smelling nice and being a great cleanser that’s awesome for hair, and lavender is great for naturally oily hair. A trick I’ve used if you can’t spend the money on essential oil is to use the water you’re mixing in and make a very strong infusion tea of rosemary. You can also add things like ginger or mint for extra nice smell!- Small amount of raw honey (optional). Honey is another great cleanser that is a humectant, i pretty much add it to every DIY recipe I have. Mix together and keep in a squeeze bottle. I haven’t had an issue with shelf life at all, though i tend to also mix batches for a couple weeks at a time. I also recommend getting a dark colored bottle if you’re using argan oil, so the light doesn’t break down the oil.Rinse your hair SUPER well after using it. And I recommend an acidic wash afterwards as well, since the castile soap is very basic and your scalp has a lower pH generally.After-wash rinse:Lemon juice and waterCitric Acid: ¼ teaspoon for a gallon of water is what I’ve had pretty good luck withVinegar. I’ve seen straight up vinegar on the head, or mixed with water. I don’t use it because the vinegar smell stays with me all day, but from what I’ve read you use white vinegar for oily hair, apple cider vinegar for regular hair.
