5 Things to Know about Bassem Youssef’s New Web Series
Just as Ramadan started and everyone got glued to the TV deciding on which Ramadan series to watch, Egyptian comedian and former surgeon Bassem Youssef released his web series under the title Plant B. Amidst all of Ramadan’s sweet and savory food temptations-between the mahshi and the mango konaffa– the series discusses plant based diets. Always with a mind of his own-here is what you need to know about Bassem Youssef’s latest venture.
The show isn’t political
Although he usually produces political satire, Bassem Youssef stays away from politics this time. Instead, he banks on his knowledge as a former surgeon as well as his journey into being vegan to create his new venture.
It’s not just a web series
Made famous through his program El Bernameg, which literally translates to The Program, Bassem Youssef’s web series is not only a web-series. Plant B is a comprehensive program and website which offers tools for people who are interested in trying a plant based diet.
The show is funny
In a typical Bassem Youssef manner, the comedian doesn’t shy away from poking fun of himself and the show is filled with humor. In the first episode he explains to guests at a lunch he is invited to that he follows a plant based diet. Their shocked responses are hilarious. ‘He’s totally lost his mind’ and ‘Maybe he is ill’ are some of the responses he gets. ‘Here’s what happens when we stray away from our culture and traditions’ chimes another!
Plant B is educational
Available in Arabic and English, the Plant B website offers many educational articles such as decoding nutritional labels and other articles explaining plant based diets. The website and the web-series also feature experts, who are mostly doctors and nutritionists.
Plant B offers a 21-Day Challenge program
If you are not sure of how exactly being on a plant based diet feels, Plant B offers a 21-Day Challenge program, where Bassem urges you to try to eat whole plant based foods for 21 days in order to lose weight, improve your health, and feel energetic. If you take part in the challenge, you will get access to a guidebook and other perks. If you think you are up to the challenge you can upload your progress by tagging @plantb.tv on Instagram.

Over the weekend I dermrimmed and rescaped my wife @kristenmstuart 30 gallon aquarium. This tank is now a ADA style aquascape with bluetooth and Alexa controlled wave and lighting functions. With this new scape I removed the old Substrate for Amazona ADA Substrate. This will have better results for carpeting plants. #aquariumhobby #aquascaping #ada #plantb #freshwater #aquascape #fish #aqua #galaxys9plus #aquascaper #aquaplants #aqualife #aquariumlife (at Aquascapers) https://www.instagram.com/p/BsrMWUNgTUB/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=13g7j1l2j8fx3
