Maggie’s Pastry & Café, 238 N Brand Blvd, Glendale, CA 91203
Maggie’s Pastry opened last year in downtown Glendale, but their North Hollywood shop has been open for over 30 years. They have a mix of European and Armenian offerings – including cream cheese rolls, baklava, lahmajun, cakes (by the slice or whole, custom available), piroshky (their specialty), eclairs, cupcakes, adjarski khachapuri, soups, salads, sandwiches, pizza, boreks, etc.
Baklava: I tried a few kinds. They were all fresh and tasty but seemed light on the nuts?
Lahmajun ($1.85 each): Soft, thin, with ground beef – seemed light on the meat but it’s really wonderful when heated in the oven till the edges are crispy
It looked like they already made the pizza and khachapuri and they reheat it to order. The café is large and looks newly remodeled; the color scheme was very grey. There was some limited outdoor seating.
Prices are reasonable, e.g., $3 for a slice of cake. They also had a freezer with ice cream novelties (not made in-house). They’ll give you a discount if you pay in cash.
4 out of 5 stars.
