Mobility drills are designed to improve functional range of motion in joints, muscles and surrounding fascia while balancing strength and flexibility. For example if your hips are too tight, you begin rotating them with each step which creates torque on your knees and leads to pain. Or you can’t fully extend your back kick to create optimal force against the ground for speed. he weak link in many runners is their hips. Most likely your hip flexors are tight, and your glutes and the smaller stabilizing muscles are weak. This often leads to Patellofemoral pain syndrome, more commonly known as "runners knee," Iliotibial band syndrome and tight lower backs. How does this happen? It starts with lack of strength training and mobility exercises, poor running mechanics, overuse, and sitting for long periods of time. These eight exercises will help loosen the hip flexors, and strengthen the surrounding stabilizing muscles. Finding the time to execute these exercises can save you from time off due to injury. And if you don't address these issues, it could lead to more detrimental effects on your spine, and can cause low back pain, spasms, tightness and worse SCIATICA. Tight hip flexors compress your lower back and can cause joint injury. The body’s gluteal muscles stabilize the knee, hip, low back and pelvis in weight bearing positions. These powerful muscles are also the engine driver that pushes us forward as we walk, jog or run. Tightness in the hip flexors can weaken your gluts, resulting in overworked hamstrings and lower back muscles and ultimately,LOW BACK PAIN. It is important to note that most athletes with pain lasting more than two weeks should see a healthcare professional. Strengthening the msucle is also integral for rehabilitation and this is the gentle progression from my previous video that focuses on stretching the muscles. So try this Piriformis Syndrome Exercises Program with Elastic Band Gentle Progression Fix! The information out there on the condition though is quite variable, with much of it not being based on evidence and instead just people's beliefs. In this video we break down the research on piriformis syndrome, what it is, how to test for it, and what to do about it. Do you need an extra help and guidance from me? Join my course that i am re-opening click the link below ⬇️ @thebackmasterclass Piriformis syndrome is a condition in which the piriformis muscle, located in the buttock region, spasms and causes buttock pain. The piriformis muscle also can irritate the nearby sciatic nerve and cause pain, numbness and tingling along the back of the leg and into the foot (similar to sciatic pain). The piriformis muscle: Starts at the lower spine and connects to the upper surface of each femur (thighbone) Functions to assist in rotating the hip and turning the leg and foot outward Runs diagonally, with the sciatic nerve running vertically directly beneath it If you find this strengthening program, pace yourself as i said at the beginning of the program and seek medical attention from your doctor or local physical therapist to make sure this is what your current diagnosis is before proceeding. Sometimes pain gets really bad that sitting even for 5 minutes, such as driving could really make a person who has this syndrome in pain with difficulty standing up. My video is about a treatment plan to target the Piriformis muscle, a deep muscle located on your buttock area, and the muscle originates on the Sacrum area S2 to S4 and attaches to the greater trochanter of femur bone that helps rotate our hip outward. If this muscle gets tight, it irritates the sciatic nerve (the largest nerve of our body) that lies behind the muscle or sometimes through the muscle. So it is sometimes misunderstood as a Low back pain with Sciatic nerve irritation that starts from your lumbar or sacral area. I incorporated the Pilates based and Physical therapy exercises combination. In this hip mobility flow , there will be progression and feel what is best for your.
