The truth is, some people don’t learn until you get physical with them.

He salutes the French Republic with hope... On his arrival in America he learns the news from the East, and he echoes the warlike trumpets of the Czar which resound on the Danube. In each of these events he hears the good news: England's agony.

What ever is expediant at the time. Republicans can never rule out any tactic including violence. I now believe politics is expedient,that view could change if circumstances change.

My friend Henry George, who was with me when this article appeared, wrote a prompt reply [on the matter of the Phoenix Park murders]. It appeared in the Standard over my name. Some expressions in this letter, which would very naturally express his un-Irish views of what should be said in retort by me, caused some pain to former associates of mine in the Fenian movement, as tending to create an impression that I had abandoned the doctrines of physical force and had made some sort of apology in this letter to English feeling for my revolutionary career. This, of course, was absurdly untrue.
