For a long time I’ve thought that cancel culture is toxic. I hate how every little thing that a person has done will come back to bite them. Nobody is perfect. And nobody should be expected to be perfect.
But I’ve always kept my feelings about cancel culture to myself. I chose to distance myself from every ‘scandal’ and move on.
But then I watched Jenna’s video...
I support Jenna in her decision, but I am also extremely disappointed in the culture that we as a community have created.
I’m not condoning what Jenna did in the past or saying that it’s alright by any means (and I am not in a position to accept her apology on behalf of everyone who was impacted by her past actions). Nor am I saying that Jenna was point blank ‘cancelled’.
But Jenna’s decision to leave and cancel herself is (I believe) rooted in the mentality of cancel culture and the idea that people cannot grow from their mistakes and learn.
In today’s society no influencer is immune to ridicule. It was probably only a matter of time before Jenna really was ‘cancelled.’
I’m not saying that Jenna is perfect. But she is human.
Her apology shows that she is willing to learn from her mistakes and grow.
What frustrates me is that we are so quick to push someone aside and turn against them. And even though that isn’t directly what happened with Jenna, I think the overal ‘cancel’ mentality is very harmful.
That is all.
What’s the easiest way to feed my dog correctly while I’m busy?
Whether your schedule is packed, unpredictable, or you simply lose track of time, feeding your dog can become one of those “oops” moments: twice in one day or not at all. Both overfeeding and skipped meals can lead to weight issues, behavior changes, and just general stress for you and your pup. Here’s a friendly, practical roadmap to fix that for good even when you’re not home.
1. Build a Reliable Feeding Routine
Dogs are creatures of habit, and a consistent mealtime schedule helps keep their metabolism happy and your routine easier to follow. Pick set times like 7:30 AM and 6:30 PM and stick to them. When feeding becomes predictable, it’s easier to remember and harder to mess up.
Pro Tip: Set repeating alarms on your phone or calendar app. You can even label them “Feed [Dog’s Name]” so it’s impossible to miss.
2. Measure Every Meal
“Just a handful” often turns into way more. Eyeballing portions is one of the biggest reasons dogs get extra calories especially if more than one person feeds them.
Use a dedicated measuring cup or kitchen scale for dog food. Follow the guidelines on the package or your vet’s recommendation, and don’t “eyeball” if you want real results.
3. Get an Automatic Feeder Your Reliable Backup
If you’re often out during meal times, a timed automatic feeder is a game changer. These devices let you schedule meals in advance so meals happen whether you’re in a meeting, stuck in traffic, or asleep.
Benefits of automatic feeders: ✔ Consistent portion control ✔ Helps prevent overeating ✔ Feeds meals on time even when you’re not home ✔ Lets you adjust schedules easily
Some smart models even connect to an app so you can tweak portions or feed extra treats remotely.
4. Track Meals Yes, Like a Habit Tracker
Keeping a simple log even just on your phone’s Notes app helps prevent duplicate feedings or missed meals. Record:
Time fed
Portion size
Who fed if more than one caregiver is involved
When you scroll your log instead of guessing, mistakes become almost impossible.
5. Communicate With Everyone Involved
If someone else ever feeds your dog family, roommate, pet sitter make sure they know the plan.
Write down: Feeding times Portion sizes Snack rules Where food and measuring tools are stored
Clarity prevents surprises like twice‑a‑day snacks that add up to overeating.
6. Understand What Counts as a “Meal”
Many owners accidentally overfeed because treats, table scraps, chews, and training rewards add calories without tallying them in the feeding plan.
Treat Rule of Thumb: Treats shouldn’t be more than 10% of daily calories. Substitute part of a meal if you go heavy on treats.
Keeping track helps you avoid hidden extras that turn into extra weight.
7. Monitor Your Dog’s Body Condition
Feeling things out by touch and looking at your pup’s silhouette tells you if your feeding plan is working.
Signs of possible overfeeding: Weight gain Less interest in activity Fat covering ribs
Signs of possible underfeeding: Weight loss Constant hunger Low energy
If you notice changes, talk with your vet and adjust portions.
8. Set Reminders for Missed Meals
If you use an automatic feeder, it can often tell you if a meal wasn’t dispensed great for when a pet sitter forgets. If you’re feeding manually, set a backup reminder an hour after meal time just in case.
Bottom Line
Stopping accidental overfeeding and avoiding forgotten meals is totally doable with a little structure:
✅ Consistent mealtime schedule ✅ Measured portions ✅ Automatic feeder backup ✅ A simple feeding log ✅ Clear communication with caregivers ✅ Treat awareness
Your dog will not only have better digestion and weight control they’ll also feel more secure knowing food comes on time with precision. And you? You’ll sleep easier without the “Did I feed Fluffy?” worry lurking in the back of your mind.
