Fabian Seacaster is an enigma to me, not because of who he is, but because how I feel about him. Fabian Seacaster is entitled, spoiled, self-absorbed, rich, rude, and worst of all, a teenage boy. He believes he's the coolest person in the world and deserves everything good and cool to happen to him. You're supposed to like him, but want him to be humbled, go through character growth and realise everything isn't about coolness. Yet. Yet that's not the fucking case. Every single time Fabian tries something cool I want him to succeed. I want him to win all his fights even when it's unreasonable that he should. He starts PvP with Pete fucking Conlan, the sweetest guy ever. A trans man from New York with a pet butterfly who lives with five roommates and is best friends with a goth and 60 year old, he's always dressed in a cowboy hat and fishnet shirt. And I love him. And I'm still rooting for this entitled little shit to win. He doesn't deserve to. And yet.

do you guys ever think about how Brennan doesn't include bigotry into his worlds and stories UNLESS they are requested or canonized by his players? like with pete in unsleeping city, we deal with his transphobic dad/peers but this is only because ally wrote it into pete's story. sam nightingale is trans, and we see her deal with transphobia from her label, her agent, her mother, etc., but that was sepphie's choice to include that part of the story. kristen is a lesbian and the church of helio being homophobic is part of her story that ally wanted to include.
in comparison, think about characters like riva or fig or timothy or so many others, where their identities are never relevant in any sort of homophobic or transphobic way. they just are. these are queer characters that don't face the same kind of institutionalized bigotry because unless they are important to a character's backstory and made canon by that character's player, brennan does not include it.
the reason i felt like pointing this out is bc I feel like there is a huge population of the d&d/ttrpg community that feel like the only way to make a story or setting "real" is to incorporate real-life or real-world issues into their fictional worlds. which, in some cases, does work. but they are not the only way to do it, and to do it without permission from the pc's that will suffer from it is just cruel and unnecessary. idk. just makes me smile to think about how much of a nonissue representation and queer stories are in d20
he doesn't fuck around with his representation. and I love to see it. there are a bunch of other examples that I'm just not thinking about right now so shout them out in the tags if you think of them :)
The Doctor Dolittle Incident, one of the funniest fucking things in all Dimension 20 herstory.

the prophecy of pete conlan from those irish immigrants has me actually weeping what do you mean the fae folk told his ancestors to look out for him, what do you mean “he will walk all ways of life and his name will be known to himself before it is known to any other” and his long dead ancestors immediately knew and trusted him and had been awaiting him

Say it once. Will keep saying it.
I will never be over the Voxes of New York.
I will never be over the 50 year old black man who is the heart and soul of New Yorks Communities. Where his name is on every smiling New Yorker’s lips. How they believe in him so deeply that it gives him power.
How he is a nurse who more people go to and trust both normal and magical.
I will never be over the fact he believes so many people rely on him so much that he can’t even hold on to a dream. That it is selfish of him to do so.
I will never get over that his counter part is a drug dealing young trans man who has never had community all he has had is dreams and escapism. A unwaivering need to shape himself in ways that make him feel like himself. How he is so untrusting and selfish. You get it because it is survival. He is alone in New York hiding from his family who want him to be everything he isn’t.
How 90% of this young man is escaping into dreams to not deal with reality.
I will never get over the metaphor of how the Voice of People found the Voice of Dreams a potential threat. But the Voice of Dreams desperately wanted the Voice of the People to accept him as is.
How it reflected in their characters of someone who wanted community but was so scared of the rejection he self destructs. Of someone who thought dreams were a threat to the reality of the community.
Then once they really saw each other- they ended up being an inseparably powerful pair. One got the community and acceptance he desperately craved- he got sober and was happy. Was able to be in healthy relationships and find more people to encircle in his life. The other got to dream again, and have someone look out for him and make those dreams come true.
I know Brennen Lee Mulligan built the world for the story to be told-
But fuck Luo Wilson and Ally Beardsley told it flawlessly
