It looks like NYC is catching onto the health food obsession--what am I saying, this city is revolutionizing it! Do a little bit of wandering around Union Square and you will stumble upon all sorts of awesome health obsessed businesses and just in time for spring. I am making it a mission to visit and taste as many of these places as possible. If I am not going to be traveling the world, I can at least treat NY as a brand new one and learn of all of the health food options it has to offer!
So I learned of this brand Hu because I've seen their small batch chocolate bars, made in brooklyn at places like Whole Foods and local health food stores. Little did I know that they just opened a restaurant called Hu Kitchen on 5th ave and 14th st. not too far from Union Sq. I was on my way home to make dinner so I didn't get anything, but almost club like atmosphere is one of a kind. The place was filled on a friday night with single young women dining alone! Everyone looked duly satisfied and enthusiastic about the vibe--either hanging out and sipping on an organic beer, or on their laptop by the window in comfy lounge chairs. Take a look at their website and their philosophy is clear (http://hukitchen.com/philosophy.php), they're on the right track when it comes to the human relationship to food.
Hu Kitchen is all about the ingredients and sourcing correctly to deliver real food to the people of nyc, while still making it look really cool! Although the vegan/vegetarian options are plentiful, the restaurant is not exclusive to such diners and also had delicious looking grass-fed and organic meal options. And now that I take a closer look at their website, the founders of this joint are super-stars in the health food world--or super-foodies! They include Joe Cross from Reboot Your Life and Frank Lipman MD (two of the lecturers in a course I am taking with the Institute for Integrative Nutrition). Well noooow I get it. Anyways, looks awesome for both vegans and skeptics alike who are looking for good quality and trendy food!
