Regarding Marco 2.0's return to Marco 1.0's memories, I think Marco 2.0 will want to leave Raibert after that, since those guys killed his previous self. He'll start to distrust them and fear them. If someone offers him the chance to go with them and leave Raibert, he'll immediately take the opportunity. After all, if they killed his previous body and didn't even want to listen, then what do they intend to do with him now that Marco is more vulnerable? Their concern for him was definitely a lie (Marco 2.0 now believes that all of Raibert's concern was just an illusion, and in fact, they are pursuing more terrible goals for him).
Reiner and Bertholdt aren't thrilled with what's happening. For some reason, Marco has become distant. When they learned Marco was taken away, they were furious. Reiner will get his child back.
How dare they kidnap their adopted son! These people will pay for this!
Oh yeah, Marco 2.0 is NOT sticking around to see whatever horrible things these guys are planning for him!
Now, though he has his muscle memory of being a soldier back, heâs still much smaller and weaker than them, even more so than he already was in his first life. He needs to get away from them, quick. Unfortunately, Soldier Reiner really sucks at controlling the urges the Armored Titan gives him. So when the Armored Titan says âdo not let anything bad happen to Marco,â Soldier Reiner hears âdo not leave him alone ever.â Warrior Reiner is better at it, but the guilt of killing Marco overrides his normal logic and so itâs pretty easy for the Armored Titan to hijack that to make Warrior Reiner obey that order. Those two would almost never leave Marco alone, so Reiner, regardless of whoâs fronting, would be stuck to Marco like a burr. And Bertholdt of course would just go along with it đŤ
If someone is able to get Marco away from them, Marco would be GONE. I imagine that their only opportunity would be if Bertholdt is left in charge of Marco for once while Warrior Reiner left to do something else, and since Bertl feels guilty about how Marco doesnât want to be around them (even though itâs for his own good đ) he tries to give Marco a bit of alone time. Which backfires spectacularly. And oh boy, Reiner is PISSED when he gets back and Marco is Not There. Itâs Bertholdt so heâll be forgiven, but heâll still be pissed.
Marco, in the meantime, would try to get back to his parents (handlers) before reibert tracks him down. Theyâd prioritize getting Marco back over getting revenge for sure, but if they happen to get the opportunity on the way⌠then theyâd take it.

Imagine Marco starts spending time with someone else. Reiner and Bertholdt don't get the attention they deserve. Marco spends all his time with his friends, and the rest is wasted on the new guy. The guys become jealous, because they want his attention too. This stranger is taking Marco away from them, his care and attention. Before he showed up, Marco at least spent time with them. I wonder what Reiner and Bertholdt will do? After all, they're jealous of Marco's new friend, the stranger who stole his attention.
Moreover, jealousy is platonic, like children or siblings being jealous that their parent or relative is spending time with someone else and not paying attention to them.
Platonic yandere is welcome.
I think that first, Reiner and Bertholdt would try to get to know the stranger. If he seems like a good friend for Marco, maybe theyâd try to introduce him to their larger friend group, and maybe he could become their friend too. Theyâre teenagers, after all, and they crave companionship like all people do. A new friend could be welcome.
But for fun, letâs say that they decide that he fucking sucks and that he obviously doesnât deserve to even be breathing the same air as Marco. Lmao.
So first, they try to go subtle. They know they shouldnât immediately resort to illegal shit like murder if they want to avoid being caught as spies. They try to convince Marco that his new friend is bad for him and has nefarious intentions with him. If that doesnât work, they try to fake evidence for him being bad news to trick Marco into believing them. If that still doesnât work, they try to convince the stranger that he shouldnât be hanging out with Marco. If being polite doesnât work, then they go with increasingly violent threats.Â
If none of that works⌠they try to convince their other friends to help them separate Marco and the stranger. Jean in particular would be easy to convince, since he already gets really jealous when it comes to Marco and only tolerates Reiner and Bertholdt also being in his life because Jean is close with them too lmao.
But if the combined efforts of their entire friend group doesnât do the trick⌠then theyâd need to remove the stranger from the Cadet Corps. Reiner and Bertholdt have a really good reputation in the Cadet Corps. Theyâre at the top of the class in pretty much every field, theyâre very well liked and trusted by their peers, theyâre seen as very reliable by their instructors, etc. So their word will have more weight than most other Cadets. If they came up with some story of the stranger breaking a rule severe enough to get him kicked out, and especially if they have some sort fabricated evidence to back it up, and even more so if they have help from their other friends, theyâd probably be believed. The stranger would be gone, and Marco would get to spend all his time with his REAL friends :D
But if Marco kept seeing him after he was gone⌠well, then theyâd have to make good on their threats. Hehe :)
Imagine that after Marco's death, Reiner and Bertholdt feel guilty. The guilt consumes them more and more. So eventually, they die, practically without resisting death. After which, everything returns to normal. Marco is alive again. And although everything is fine, the feeling of guilt does not leave the warriors. They begin to care for him, as a way of atoning for their sin. However, their psyche is crumbling, as the guilt never fully leaves them. They begin to consider Marco their child, their brother, basically someone from the family. Moreover, they are convinced that he is their relative. They are obliged to protect him from the dirty paws of bad people. The boys have become downright yandere, and they have an older brother complex. They are overprotective of Marco. Marco notices that something is wrong with Reiner and Berthold. And when they deal with his attacker (and Marco isn't seriously hurt), kidnap him, and lock him in a place known only to them, he realizes they've definitely lost their minds. Marco tries to get through to them. He says he's not related to them, that he wants them to let him go home, and that they're overprotecting him; he's not a child, and Marco doesn't need their supervision. However, Reiner and Bertholdt don't listen and continue to overprotect him. Their sanity has completely gone. Marco needs to be safe, and they, as his brothers, will ensure that no one harms him or dares steal him.
Basically, these two have suffered mental collapse from intense guilt. Their minds have become clouded and now they consider Marco their family. Although in fact, he is not related to them and is actually from Eldia, while they are from Marley.
[I have at least one follower who gets triggered by depictions of overprotection, so this is a warning to them and anyone else who needs it. This post contains depictions of overprotection. Obviously in real life, overprotection is extremely harmful and not fun at all. These characters are fictional though, so Iâm going to torment them for my own amusement.]
Oooo, I like the way you think! I love a good nightmare timeloop <3
Reiner and Bertholdt being the only ones who Rememberâ˘ď¸âŚ delicious! I think that, knowing how everything turns out, theyâd probably be a lot more willing to just not go back to Marley this time around. Theyâd try to make a new life in Paradis instead like they always wanted deep down. And yeah, theyâd be so happy to see their friends okay again⌠and guilty đ¤ ESPECIALLY with Marco. He was a friend to everyone and super close with them especially! He was probably the last Paradisian they wanted to kill personally 𼲠And with the parasites affecting their brains, it wouldnât take much to go from: Marco is my friend and I donât want to hurt him again â> I cannot let Marco get hurt by anyone or anything ever â> I need to do whatever is necessary to keep Marco âsafe,â even if he hates me for it â> I am going to kidnap and imprison Marco
Marco is very much a âfawnâ kind of person, as opposed to fighting back or trying to run away or freezing up. He just keeps trying to appeal to his captors to convince them to let him go đ which obviously doesnât work, not when Reiner and Bertholdt are that far gone and convinced that what theyâre doing is for his own good. When he begs them to let him go, they just ruffle his hair and say shit like âyeah sure buddy, now eat your dinner.â But when he keeps insisting that they arenât kin⌠they get mad at him and might even lash out at him⌠for his own good of course, they canât just let him keep living in the delusion of not being their brother/son/something đ
Soldier Reiner specifically is a nightmare to deal with, since he canât even trust his own mate or himself (well, really, Warrior Reiner) to not hurt Marco, considering who killed Marco last time⌠He could never stop loving Bertholdt, but heâs lost a lot of trust in him, and Iâm not sure if heâd ever be fully comfortable leaving Marco alone with Bertholdt despite the love he feels for his mate 𼲠Even though Bertholdt constantly reassures Soldier Reiner that he really has changed and that they have the same goals (keeping Marco safe), well⌠thatâs a bit hard to believe. He WANTS to trust Bertholdt. But he canât, and that makes them both really sad because Bertholdt absolutely understands and hates himself about it while not blaming Soldier Reiner for those feelings at all. Soldier Reiner develops separation anxiety disorder quickly, with Marco as his object of attachment. It becomes almost impossible to remove him from Marcoâs presence, since heâs always trying to hold him and nuzzle him and purr with him, while Marco is deeply uncomfortable with all that physical contact from the guy who fucking kidnapped him. He just canât handle not always having an eye on Marco. Even something as simple as bathroom breaks become a terrifying anxiety ridden nightmare, because taking Marco with him would be just a bit too far but itâs still really scary to not know exactly what Marco is doing for like 2 minutes. Anything could happen to him while Soldier Reiner isnât there! Other than that and like, showering, he just. Never leaves Marco alone. So when heâs fronting, Bertholdt would have to do all of the work involved with going out and getting money/supplies while Soldier Reiner stays home and cuddles with their brother and does housework with Marco right there with him.
Warrior Reiner on the other hand would be terrified of accidentally hurting Marco himself, which is ironic because his attempts to prevent harm from coming to Marco are really seriously hurting him anyways. So heâd baby Marco and try to be as gentle as possible, but like⌠heâs still built like an ox and very scary when he gets angry at Marcoâs begging to leave, so Marco is still very understandably terrified of him even without knowing that Warrior Reiner murdered him in a previous loop of the timeloop 𼲠But he would give Marco a bit more space than Solider Reiner. He understands that Marco has every right to be scared of him, because Warrior Reiner is obviously a scary dangerous monster who is fully capable of murdering him, so he tries to watch from a distance and give him short breaks of being completely alone instead to try to make Marco feel more comfortable. It helps a tiny bit, because even a little bit of privacy is still better than no privacy at all, but Marco knows that Warrior Reiner is always lurking around somewhere and would absolutely be able to catch him before he got far enough away to escape if he ever tried.
Bertholdt just doesnât really know what to do in this situation. He already sucks at socializing (I say this with so much love and understanding), and he doesnât have any social scripts planned out for any of this. So he doesnât really know how to properly act around Marco after the timeloop starts again. When Warrior Reiner makes the suggestion to just take Marco Somewhere Elseâ˘ď¸ to protect him, Bertholdt just goes along and tries to console Marco as it happens. Bertholdt tries very hard to comfort Marco as heâs held captive, but heâs still Marcoâs captor so his best efforts donât really mean much⌠He just wants to keep his little brother safe (they are the same age) and it really upsets him when Marco is clearly unhappy living with them. It almost makes him feel like theyâre doing something wrong⌠Bertholdt also spends a lot of time managing his boyfriendsâ mental illnesses. Theyâre both super anxious about Marcoâs safely, to a higher degree than even Bertholdt due to being Armored Titans, and they often try to act on those fears in ways that arenât that helpful. Plus the depression. And the PTSD. So Bertholdt has to keep Marco safe (which Solider Reiner doesnât really allow him to help with much) and keep both Reiners safe (including from themselves) and be the breadwinner and do all the emotional labor of the household to keep their little family just barely functioning đĽ˛
A big problem with the Titan-Spirits are that they tend to cause their hosts to have a much higher likelihood of forming dangerously codependent attachments with others. Once you become part of a Titan-Shifterâs âpack,â they feel intense protective urges towards you. Even the least aggressive Titan-Shifters, Colossals, still really feel it. And if they ever feel like youâre regularly in more danger than you can handle, that anxiety for your safety increases and increases, until they decide that the only person capable of keeping you safe is them. And that creates a very slippery slope towards the Titan-Shifters doing very harmful things, even to their objects of attachment, while being completely convinced that itâs for the good of their loved ones.
