I'll split this post into three sections, going over different severities of anemia. Mild, moderate, and critical.

MILD ANEMIA

You feel more tired than usual, exercising feels more strenuous. You become out of breath more easily than you used to. But overall, you don't feel too bad. Just slightly off.

Very common in people who menstruate, easily treated by taking iron supplements. Can also be a common problem for people who are not getting enough iron or b12 in their diet, due to either eating problems or poverty.

When I ended up in the ER, the doctors said that I was likely anemic for years, and considering how many problems I had with excercise in my childhood, I do suspect that was the reason. Kids shouldn't become out of breath after running one lap, and if you call them lazy, FUCK YOU.

MODERATE ANEMIA

You feel very tired, all of the time. Running is not an option, fuck you. Walking uphill makes you out of breath, fuck you. You get cold more easily, your extremities get numb very easily. Pins and needles is a very common problem for you. You start to become pale, and or ashy looking.

At this point, there is something wrong. While this can be a result of poor diet, it is more commonly the result of disease. Cancer, menorrhagia, intestinal issues, ulcer, internal bleeding, a good few things can cause it to get to this level. If the result of physiological disease or eating disorder, it is very important to get help before the condition worsens.

For me, my anemia was being caused by abnormal menstrual bleeding due to undiagnosed thyroid disease. Basically, my thyroid being nuked caused my ovaries to shut down, which cause a rare(or at least rare for what happened) condition called estrogen breakthrough bleeding. Fun. :']

CRITICAL ANEMIA

MY FUCKING BLOOD TURNED PINK BECAUSE I DIDN'T HAVE ENOUGH HEMOGLOBIN TO MAKE IT RED HOLY FUCK. I AM NOT JOKING, THAT SHIT WAS HORRIFYING.

At this point, there are not enough red blood cells to properly diffuse your organs. Even with supplemental oxygen, my own O2 sat remained critically low. Because my anemia was so drawn out, my body had time to restore fluid levels, but was unable to make enough red blood cells due to bleeding and autoimmune issues. At this point, stopping further bleeding and blood transfusion are necessary.

I had to receive three units of blood and one unit of iron to reverse my condition. I also had to take iron supplements for years afterwards, because of the damage done to my body.

When you are this anemic, your skin looses all color. Blood basically retreats further into your body in a desperate attempt to keep you alive, but it's not enough. You start to feel dizzy, nauseous, disorented. I was unable to get up and walk to the bathroom or to the couch, or anywhere. My mom had to physically hold me up becuase my legs were too weak to physically hold me. I ended up vomiting several times, the nausea was that bad.

It's honestly a miracle that the bleeding stopped after my sibling called 911. I probably wouldn't have survived if it continued.

I was more or less doing okay until the day I went to the ER, because I seemed to suffer some sort of hemorrhage, and bled pretty badly over the course of several hours. By the time they did a ultrasound, they found blood in my abdomen, but no active bleeding, so I can't be completely sure what caused the bleeding.

Also, I was freezing cold! They put several freshly warmed blankets on me in the ER, and I was still cold. Blood does a lot to carry heat through the body, without it, you get really cold, really easily.

The failure had been sudden. One moment their plane was flying through the air, and the next, the wings were burning and the whole thing was headed straight towards the ground. Gabi held tightly onto Falco, shutting her eyes as the plane fell from the sky. One moment they were falling, alarms blaring all around her.

The next, nothing.

Gabi awoke with a groan, she was lying in a pile of foliage. Some poor plants had stopped her fall, but it was better than being a splatter on the ground. She got up, her body aching. Carefully, she checked herself over. There was no bleeding beyond a few minor scrapes, and while her chest hurt quite a bit, none of her ribs seemed to be broken. Bruised maybe, but not broken.

"Falco? Colt?" She called out to the others, but only the quiet crackles of the distant burning plane answered her.

Well, she figured there was no point in staying here. No one would come to the island to rescue them, so her best bet was to try and find any form of civilization. If it even existed here.

"Falco! Colt!" She kept calling out as she made her way through the dense foliage. Gabi let out a gasp when she spotted some blond hair. "Falco!!" She rushed over, pulling him out of a wet pile. He groaned weakly, his heart was racing and he looked pale. "Damn it…" She cursed, gently laying him on the ground. He didn't have any visible injuries beyond some minor scrapes, and what looked to be a bad bug bite.

Still, he could be bleeding internally.

"Come on, Falco." She pulled him over her shoulders, only barely carrying his dead weight through the forest. She'd managed to get to a clearing when footsteps quickly surrounded her. At first she lit up, assuming it to be fellow humans, then she froze.

A large beast with a golden mane stepped out from the forest, it was accompanied by a mangy looking wolf creature, a black draconic beast, and some sort of chimaera.

Gabi grimaced, holding tightly onto Falco as the beasts neared. The biggest one, whose mane almost looked like the solar corona, sniffed her carefully. It seemed to be… purring? She looked at the creature, shouting when the chimaera stole Falco.
