The Linen Closet - Curtis Gang x Reader
Once I finished making “Smart Kid” I realized I wanted to elaborate on your efforts to make sure the Curtis home is stocked with supplies so enjoy. Reader is married to Darry Curtis (aka childhood Darry and reader being cute, also OC mentioned if you squint).

Being Darry’s married partner was not easy, nor was being a member (more by association) of the gang, and one of the few adults at that. But there were just some things about it that made it all so rewarding. Looking after a bunch of kids as they became men chief among them, of course.
You had been young when you first learned about the closet. You were having a play date with Darry at the time (more like Darry AND his brothers AND every other greaser in the area, but that was pretty par for the course). It was tornado season and the weather got nasty, as it often did, with less warning than the adults in your life would have liked.
Mr. Curtis promised you would all be able to stay over for the night and Mrs. Curtis asked you, “Would you mind helping me get some things?”
You of course went with her and when she opened up the small closet you said, “Oh, you have a linen closet?” You had used a word that you had heard your own mother use, had seen the ‘linen closet’ where she kept extra bedding and odds and ends.
You heard a laugh from Two-Bit and a teasing remark that made your face heat up. He was more than happy to correct you and call it a “coat closet.”
“I’ll hang you in it, whatever it is, see if I won’t.” Darry said right back and shot you a smile as he came to help you and his mother. One of his dazzling smiles to boot. Young as you were you felt your heart flutter a little.
“Sounds fancier to say ‘linen closet’,” Mrs. Curtis said encouragingly. “I like it.” She handed you some blankets and a box of supplies to Darry.
“Why don’t we make a fort?” Mr. Curtis asked and all the kids he and his wife had managed to gather inside, including you, heartily agreed.
The storm was completely forgotten, at least for the kids, as everyone worked together. Lights were turned off and flashlights used. Enough packaged toothbrushes and clothes were available and handed out so eventually you and all the other kids had your teeth brushed and were settled in for the night. Darry had even bunked with you, although Two-Bit and Twig were not far and kept teasing the two of you until Darry chased them off.
You felt so giddy spending the night over with so many friends, and right next to Darry no less. Just so perfect...

You looked at Darry, and he looked at you. It was tornado season and the first one since his parents passed. Which meant now the two of you were the adults making sure all of the “kids” were inside and safe and distracted from the storm.
You had taken over where Mr. and Mrs. Darrel Curtis Sr. had left off. You knew the linen closet was full of everything that might be needed and if the storm got any worse the family was all going down to the storm shelter. But for now you got supplies. Made sure everyone brushed their teeth and changed and their dirty clothes were going to be washed tomorrow.
When you and Darry made eye contact again, he suggested, “Pillow fort?”
Before Dallas could finish his retort that they were all too old for it Sodapop and Steve were gathering cushions and Two-bit and Johnny were taking blankets from you and getting to work. The lights were turned off and the beams of flashlights lit up this mini kingdom. Scary stories shared and a lot of laughter drowned out the storm.
Your eyes met again. You two were doing good. The kids were happy, safe. Your family was okay.
