“Angel walk on street, Earth boy walking too all at once they meet dreams come true”
an: sorry this is a rather long one!! (mini slowburn??) (also first dual POV!!) hope yall enjoy!!
Ponyboys’ sheets rustled and he blinked back the sleep in his eyes. A new dream had replaced his usual feverish nightmares. An overly saccharine one about a soc girl. About you. Nothing for Two-bit to whistle at, but instead something tender and warm. He couldn't quite remember it in full though, mostly that it was about you and how it made him feel. One thing he could remember was your fingers drifting through his hair and your lips almost meeting his.
However instead of your plush lips, he was met with an elbow to the back, courtesy of Soda having accidentally jabbed him and waking him before the moment could finish.
He rubbed his forehead in confusion trying to work out why such a dream would slip into his subconscious. You were nice enough, in some of his classes and not as talkative as some of your super-soc friends which he appreciated, and you were pretty, a different pretty than the other soc girls, you were downright angelic. He chalked it up to earlier the day before when you floated past him, flipping your hair and sending notes of your sweet perfume to fog up his brain.
He rose slowly from his bed and wrestled on his jeans, mind still wandering to you. Pony threw on a t-shirt and some socks and then left his room and sat at the kitchen table silently while Darry cooked some eggs for all three of them.
“Boy, you sure have been quiet this morning Pony.” Sodapop remarked.
“Must be outta things to complain about.” Darry joked back from the kitchen.
To this, Ponyboy shot a sidelong glance, but gave no response. This dream was really bugging him and he couldn't figure out why. Even as he tugged on his converse and threw his bookbag over one shoulder he still hadn't found an answer. He walked with heavy feet to school searching for his answer. Then there, across the street, he saw you. You were giggling to yourself, his stomach fluttered and he felt his ears start to redden.
You raised your arms over your head, giving a slight stretch, a small yawn escaped your lips. Sliding out of your bed, you tucked the silky sheets under your mattress, which had broken free after an apparently fitful night of sleep. After fluffing your ruffled pillows and laying an outfit neatly on your freshly smoothed comforter you stepped back, nibbling at the corner of your lower lip, recalling the reason for your sporadic sleep last night.
A boy had infiltrated your dreams last night. Ponyboy Curtis to be precise. You noticed him at school a few times, he was usually quiet and kept to himself, he was in some of your honors classes and did rather well. You were aware of him, yes, but why had you been dreaming about him last night? Such honey soaked dreams, fingers intertwining, soft giggles through kisses echoing, his hands brushing the smooth skin of your waist, all through a luminescent haze.
You glided down your stairs and ensconced yourself at a high-backed chair in your lavish dining room. A stack of fluffy pancakes awaited you and you prodded at them with your gleaming silver fork. Who even was this boy? You had hardly talked to him, barely looked at him and, yes, he was rather dreamy, but that was no matter.
Thoughts of him wisped over you as you brushed out your silky hair, and as you blinked on your mascara, and as you applied glimmering lipgloss. Finally when you smoothed out your outfit, you shook your head and banished all thoughts of that greaser from your mind –nevermind how cute he was. You fetched your purse and slid on your usual heels and walked out the door. Half way to school and everything was alright, you had managed to occupy your thoughts and diverted its attention to a song you were humming.
You began to near the cross walk when an image of the forbidden youngest Curtis brother flashed in your head, an excerpt from your dream making a reprise. A small giggle escaped your lips at the thought and you hoped no one noticed. You looked around just to make sure and then your gaze stopped on him. He was looking at you.
You pretended not to look at him as you both crossed the street, however you focused just a tiny bit too hard on this task and ended up knocking into someone who was standing on the edge of the sidewalk, and tripping.
You had knocked into him.
Mid-stumble he caught you around the waist, stopping your fall. The hem of your top had risen a bit during your trip to the ground and you could feel his lightly rough fingers on your velvety skin. The same feeling had graced you in your dream. His hand lingered and you stared into his eyes, –green with rings of grey encircling them– then he spoke.
“Are you.. Um.. alright?” he said to you. You were still staring, but quickly brought out of your daze when his hand started to slip off of you. You caught it with yours and absentmindedly started making nervous circles with your thumb on his palm.
At that moment, after Ponyboy caught you he had no thoughts whatsoever besides “Glory, does she know she's holding my hand?”
It was immediately later evident that yes, you did, but you had no idea why you had. His eyes widened, glancing at your fingers, still wrapping his. Pony was attempting to play it cool but he knew his plans were being foiled by the “deer in headlights” look his face was giving you, betraying the instructions he gave it.
“Yeah… yeah thanks.” you said to him.
He still couldn't believe that his newfound crush had just spoken to him, and to make matters better in his mind, was still holding his hand. At this, you dropped your hand, but your fingertips were still skimming his.
He said the first thing that came to his mind to keep your attention.
“I.. um.. Could you help me with the English assignment we're doing right now? I can't quite figure out my conclusion.” He asked you, hopeful that this could prolong your interaction with him.
Surprised, you answered “Yeah, sure of course. Um.. come over after school ill give you a hand.”
Not expecting this to work, Ponyboy paused before responding with a “Yeah, thank you.” And disappearing to class.
The ending bell couldn't have come slower. Your nails tapped on your desk, awaiting the final ring so you could meet Ponyboy at the crossing you’d spoken to him earlier at. When it finally came you practically dashed there, to find him already waiting.
The walk back to your estate wasn't nearly as awkward as your previous conversation, you laughed about the newest bad movies that were showing at the nightly double, the new Elvis record, and everything in between. He really wasn't all that bad to get to know, even though you'd been warned against most greasers he was just a regular boy, really down to earth –okay maybe like a centimeter off the ground– and you enjoyed his company.
Returning to your room however, was another story. The setting of last night's dream, and stirring up the happenings. You fiddled nervously with your jewelry and grabbed your English notebook from your bag which you had slung down at the foot of your bed.
Good God Almighty. Ponyboy was in your room. He must truly have a guardian angel he thought to himself, for his dream to become a prediction. “Well.” He thought "I won't get too ahead of myself, I'm only in her room. For homework. Nothing else.” He reminded himself.
He forgot the fatal flaw in this plan. He had already written the conclusion on the project. Thinking quickly he stated "I've mostly done it but if you could maybe look over it?” as he passed his beat up composition notebook to you.
After reading it you gave him a glance. “Ponyboy this is really good.” you told him. “In fact, I don't think you needed my help at all.” You gave him a light hearted, jokingly knowing look.
“I know why you're here.” You poked fun at him.
His heart was pounding. Had you really figured him out that fast? He cast a nervous giggle. “Oh yeah, why's that.” he implored.
“You feel bad for the featherheaded soc girl who walked right into you and you had to check up on her to see if she was well.”
“Yep.. that's it, you caught me.” he joked back, raising his hands in fake guilt.
A brief moment passed and you both went quiet.
“Why are you really here?” you queried. “You don't need help with English, did you just wanna talk or what?” you continued, nudging him from across the bed with your knee.
“Yeah I guess so..” He trailed off, wondering if he should withhold this information from you.
“I sorta had a dream about you last night.” Before he could continue you perked up “No way, me too!” Then you fell silent, remembering what exactly the dream was about and then blushed.
Stunned, Pony was also struck with silence, before testing the waters and asking you “What was your dream about?”.
Unsure of what to do you faltered before pepping yourself up. “Im not really sure how to explain…” You trail off before a possibly pearl-clutching idea pops into your head. You inch closer to him and run your fingers through his hair, his eyes sparkling, giving you the go-ahead to advance.
Your right hand found its way to his jaw, leaving the other in his hair. He closed the gap between you and slowly moved his hands to your hips while pressing his lips to yours. You gained confidence and let the kiss deepen, he tasted like smoke and pepsi. Maybe dreams do come true.
