Copingkin is a combination of the terms copinglink and otherkin. A copinglink is often formed voluntarily, but someone who is copingkin did not choose their kintype, but rather identifies as their kintype as an involuntary consequence of certain traumas, life experiences, or neurodivergencies.

Trauma Copingkin

Someone who is trauma copingkin is someone who is copingkin due to trauma. Their trauma may be physical, s*xual, emotional, medical, religious, etc. Since individual experiences vary, what constitutes ‘trauma’ in this case is up to the individual.

Neurodivergent Copingkin

Someone who is neurodivergent copingkin is someone who is copingkin due to neurodivergence (click the link to learn more). Any sort of experience with neurodivergency could potentially lead to someone identifying as neurodivergent copingkin.

Trauma + Neurodivergent Copingkin

The terms can be used together. Someone who is both might have trauma that resulted in neurodivergency, experiences from being neurodivergent that resulted in trauma, or any other sort of experience that combines both trauma and neurodivergency. Someone might also identify as both separately. For example, someone could identify as neurodivergent wolfkin and trauma robotkin. Alternatively, someone who sees the two things as connected (maybe due to them being neurodivergent because of trauma itself, becasuse they see their trauma and neurodivergence as one condition, or any other related reason) may identify as trauma neurodivergent catkin, for example.

Copingkin can also be combined with other terms such as therian and fictionkin to form terms such as ficticopingkin, coping therian, coping theriomythic, etc.
