Okay, after listening to today’s Opening Arguments, I have so many thoughts about the House situation. Something has to happen differently today, because there are representatives who have to go home for the weekend because family events, and they can’t adjourn until they can agree on Something - either a rule change that lets them adjourn without a Speaker, which is legally questionable at best, or a rule change that lets them choose a Speaker by plurality, which is precedented but at this point would likely land them with Jeffries, or some kind of agreement about who to vote for the position! Otherwise they will end up stuck in the building legally forever.
At this point I don’t know if they will be able to agree on any of these and they might end up stuck! I mean of course from my perspective I’m looking at the more moderate Republican representatives and going “come on. You know the quickest way out of this is for five or six of you to vote for Jeffries.” That seems very unlikely but honestly I don’t know if any of the other possible scenarios are more likely.
Eagerly awaiting more news of today’s session.
