This gives me Oceanid/Siren vibes
genshin just revealed rhodeia as a playable character??!
This is an interesting idea I just thought of, it's a scary-looking Oceanid form Furina AU.
The idea is that when Furina was created so-to-speak, she had her human form (aka Pallas' body) and an extra form where she becomes an Oceanid like the rest of her kin. The thing is that it isn't Pallas' Oceanid appearance Furina has, as Pallas didn't look that different from the other Oceanids.
No, instead looking like a majestic and clean sea spirit, her form as a Oceanid looked quite disturbing, like actually monsterous enough that would people fear her presence. She is still the same Furina in her human form, which is why she sticks with it, rarely using her other form.
Even Pallas aka Focalors was freaked out from seeing it despite knowing it was Furina, she certainly could see that it was an Oceanid as there was enough traits to show it, but she couldn't blame anyone if they thought it came from the Abyss than the seas.
And she wouldn't be alone as when the other Archons also see that true form, they would all clearly be unnerved by it despite knowing who Furina is and therefore knowing that she is far from being actively terrifying, that form still concerns them.
Others are also not immune to be scared by her Oceanid appearance, with the more in control of their emotions like the three Hearth children and Navia are clearly freaked out from her appearance, while the most jumpy like Charlotte just faint when she first sees her. Even Clorinde, who eventually got used to it by seeing her it a decent amount, did flinch when she first saw it.
Hell, even the Knave was unnerved by Furina's appearance when first saw her, which was during her assassination attempt which made Furina take the form the second she saw her which freaked Arlecchino enough that Furina was able to run away (or rather float away) back to her residence.
The only ones that weren't scared of Furina at first sight were Neuvillette who due to being the Dragon Sovereign plainly didn't fear Furina not matter how she looked, in fact was surprised that others were scared/unnerved of her Oceanid form as he didn't see why, this also includes the other Dragon Sovereigns too, they have seen worse.
The others who didn't fear Furina's Oceanid form includes the Melusines, who directly saw through that form and therefore knew Furina was more than that, and the Traveler (plus their Abyss sibling) have plainly just seen much scarier in the many worlds they travelled through, that they couldn't see Furina's Oceanid form as intimidating.
Hilariously, the final person that wasn't scared by Furina's Oceanid appearance was Escoffier who saw that form of Furina by accident and didn't react with any type of fear, in fact she was more enthralled by it than anything. Even joked about wondering how she would taste like, which freaked Furina herself a bit before she laughed.
It was the first time she was scared rather than the other way around, therefore was something she was new to. It was also the reason for Furina is so close to Escoffier in this AU as she was the first human that was perfectly fine with her appearance at first sight, even Clorinde needed some time to get used to it.
I decided not to say what Furina's Oceanid appearance looks like as I believed being vague about it makes it scarier rather than explain how it looks and make it sounds stupid.
Hm... I wonder why Furina is so different compared to Focalors and the other Oceanid...
Is it because how she was created maybe? Something... went wrong with the process?
And the ones that fear her Oceanid form, I find it interesting that the Archons actually fear her somewhat. Zhongli most of all cause I feel he would be in the same category of "I've seen worse.".
I do agree with Clorinde, Navia, and Charlotte's reaction. Also love her scaring the absolute fuck out of Arlecchino and just floating away.
As for Neuvillette and the other Sovereigns, I like that they're not the least bit afraid of her. Considering how long they've lived, they've seen worse.
I get the feeling if you ask them what was the scariest or ugliest thing they've ever saw, they'd automatically say the Heavenly Principles.
Furina's Oceanid form it cute compared to that fucker.
Also, yeah, the Melusines would be immune to her scary form. That's a definite. I will Escoffier was a pleasant surprise, but now it makes me wonder how Wriothesley would take her form...
And yeah, of course the Traveler would also not find her form terrifying. Hell, they seen scarier stuff in the chasm-

do you ever think that when a oceanids wanted to be human, (forever or just a day or whatever) they just sang 'When were human' in the water till Egeria begrudgingly came over?
No? Just me?

Oceanids in the Undersea
The Oceanids were a group of water-bound humanoids with a mostly human physique. The exception lay in the koi-like iridescent fins on their forearms and calves, and glowing seafoam green hair that moved like fire.
The Oceanids were exceptionally graceful, renown for their beautiful dances and expressive faces. They could leap out of the water and use their "wings" (fins) to glide upon the sea-breezes.
The secret of their magic lies in their tears. It is through their tears and their dances that they could command the very power of life itself, through the water, aquatic plant-life, and the lava at the ocean's floor. The power of life can be deadly, however--especially when an Oceanid is scorned.
It was on one such occasion that an Oceanid was scorned by her human lover that the archipelago where the Oceanids lived and worshipped their Volcano Mother Goddess was destroyed.
Their descendants and some scattered villages still exist throughout the Undersea, but many are wary of the dangers of their magic.
So since Nereids come from an Oceanid and Naiads are associated with streams and springs you kind of have a similar biological family to felines or canines.
Oceanids are like tigers or wolves in which that's a completely wild animal that will absolutely destroy you if it wants to.
Nereids are like bobcats or foxes where it's still a wild animal but your first thought when you see it is "Oh cool" rather than "oh im going to die now." Not that you'd win a fight with one either.
Then Naiads are like cats and dogs where due to the proximity to people it's way calmer and safer to be around but those are still some sharp teeth and they can absolutely still win a 1v1.
not entirely sure where i'm going with this other than Penelope, Telemachus, and Achilles should have sharp teeth. Canines at least.
